Chicago - Airlines have cancelled nearly 1 000 flights at Chicago airports because a winter storm is forecast to bring up to 25cm of snow to the region.

The Chicago department of aviation said on Tuesday that more than 770 flights were cancelled at O'Hare International Airport. Airlines have cancelled more than 215 flights at Midway International Airport. No significant delays were reported at either airport.

City aviation officials urge travellers to check their flight status with airlines.
