Clashes after Israel mosque vandalism

2011-10-03 12:00

Tel Aviv - Scores of angry Israeli Arabs clashed with police on Monday, after a mosque was vandalised in their Bedouin village in northern Israel.

At least two hundred villagers marched from the village of Tuba-Zanghariyya, north of the Sea of Galilee, toward a nearby town, Israel Police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld said.

Some of them threw stones and burnt tyres. Police responded with tear gas to disperse the crowd.

The assailants entered the village overnight, lit fires in the mosque, took copies of the Koran and burnt them outside and spray-painted Hebrew slogans on the walls, with the words "Price Tag" and "Revenge".

Police arrived at the scene to find "very severe damage", and set up a special investigative team and a dialogue with village leaders to calm tempers, he said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu strongly condemned the mosque attack, saying he was "furious" when he saw images of the damage.

Radical Jews have launched attacks on mosques to avenge Israeli government measures to uproot settler outposts in the West Bank.

The last incident was a month ago, when suspected radical settlers vandalised a mosque in a village near Nablus on the northern West Bank.

The ultra-right settlers have named their revenge campaign "Price Tag".

Most acts of vandalism however have occurred in the West Bank, not in Israel, where relations between the Arab minority and Jewish majority have over the past years been tense, but calm.

A major wave of unrest broke out among Israeli Arabs, who make up one-fifth of the population, in October 2000.

Israeli police shot dead 13 rioters, as thousands of Arab citizens of Israel took to the streets in solidarity with protesters in the West Bank, shortly after the second Palestinian uprising erupted amid a deadlock in peace talks.

Don't you ever get the idea News24 just publishes as many Israel-Palestine articles just because they know we'll all go haywire on here (more hits, more visitors, good for ther sponsors)...

      DonQuixote - 2011-10-03 13:13

No. I get that sense from the scores of trite articles on South African "race relations".

  • trevb - 2011-10-03 12:25

radical islam radical judaism and radical christianity ! the problerm with religion is it leads to extremists ! and this is why there will never be peace >

      Arno Young - 2011-10-03 12:50

As far as I know only Islam advocates, encourages and holds as requirement(in certain situations) violence as a means to spread itself. I.e. radical Jews and Christians have no scriptural reference to justify their violent acts, and therefore the said religeons cannot be held responsible for violent acts.

      Matt :-) - 2011-10-03 12:55

@ trevb - so should we have atheist states to maintain peace? You know, ban religion, kill anyone who believes in a god and after the genocide tell the world you live in peace? Like USSR, China, Bulgaria, Romania, ETC ETC ETC? Always condemning extremism though, regardless who does it against whom

      Matt :-) - 2011-10-03 13:06

@ Frank - not that we will ever know what skin colour Moses had. But why do you think he was Black? Moses came from the line of Shem, which is the forefather of Jews and Arabs of the Middle East. By that, Moses would sooner be "tanned" but not Black, or else he'd have descended from the line of Ham. Besides, if you're a preacher, then why are you referring to race with a clear bias towards one and against another? God loves everyone - check Acts 17:26 and Genesis 1:26-28 for a start. I also did a piece - - enjoy it brother!

      CHIPPER_CHAP - 2011-10-03 13:07

Yes Frank Dlamin, and as the Bible says, there will be many false prophets in the last days. You are so easy to spot its unreal. Now go back to the hole from where you came from.

      slojam - 2011-10-03 13:22

@Arno - And since when does Islam 'encourage' violence to spread itself? Please provide proof for your claims otherwise you have exposed your ignorance. It is ignorant people like yourself that assume that you know what the religion preaches but you are often misguided by the media and more often than not by those who lead you and that you look up to in your communities! Shame, you are misguided those who should show you the right path!

      Frank Dlamin - 2011-10-03 13:23

CHIPPER CHAP Hole - You and your tribe think that all the black people came out of a hole. No wonder we detest you and what you stand for. We are happy with our "holes".

      Matt :-) - 2011-10-03 13:30

@ Frank - the descendants of Ham went from the Middle East and headed South - starting from around Egypt. Obviously some would stay in the area. Which has zero relevance as Moses STILL came from the line of Shem. "no wonder we detest you and what you stand for." Chipper Chap is right. APOSTATE ALERT!!! No "Man of God" would ever condone the detesting of anybody.

      Arno Young - 2011-10-03 13:47

@slojam. The Noble Koran 9:29 Fight against those who believe not in Allah, nor in the Last Day, nor forbid that which has been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger and those who acknowledge not the religeon of truth among the People of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), until they pay the Jizya with willing submission and feel themselves subdued. The Noble Koran 9:5 Kill the unbelievers wherever you find them...But if they repent and accept Islam.. then leave their way free. 'And fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief)..' 'Then when the Sacred Months ... have passed, then kill the Mushrikun(unbeliever) wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them, and prepare for them each and every ambush..'

      Zee - 2011-10-03 14:24

@Arno Young: "And fight them on until there is no more Tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in Allah; but if they cease, Let there be no hostility except to those who practise oppression. The prohibited month for the prohibited month,- and so for all things prohibited,- there is the law of equality. If then any one transgresses the prohibition against you, Transgress ye likewise against him. But fear God, and know that God is with those who restrain themselves." A little different when you see it in full eh?

      Zee - 2011-10-03 14:28

@Arno Young - I could also tell people to visit and be selective about which verses I quote, but it is childish and lame to quote things out of context to prove a point don't you think?

      Arno Young - 2011-10-03 14:37

@Zee. Please provide context for this verse: The Noble Koran 9:5 Kill the unbelievers wherever you find them...But if they repent and accept Islam.. then leave their way free. Please also provide a scriptural reference from the new Testament, where Christians are advocated to kill unbelievers.

      Arno Young - 2011-10-03 14:57

@DonQuixote. Deuteronomy: Applicable to the Jews at one point in time. I.e. not applicable anymore. Matthew: True. Violence will proceed due to differences. But never the less. Jesus did not say go kill and subdue until they convert. This verse implies the Christians(converts) will suffer the sword. It by no means imply the Christian to take up the sword to kill and subdue. Luke: 1) A parable: to convey principles. 2) The verse you reference (bearing in mind its a parable) refers to the end of time when Jesus returns. God said, vengeance is mine. It is not for the Christian to kill. Also by pointing me to these verses(suggesting comparative Christian verses), you agree with my statement that the Qur'an advocates Moslems to kill and subdue unbelievers.

      slojam - 2011-10-03 14:57

@Arno - Again you have graciously exposed your ignorance. Zee has very beautifully and eloquently showed you how you have taken verses slectively and out of text to suit your own views of what you THINK Islam preaches. For your own grace and honour, I encourage you to stop browsing sites that advocate Islam as an evil force and do yourself a favour and get a translated copy of the real Quraan and study it in full from start to end. You will read a very different story to what you have been misled into believing by those who wish to decieve you. Go on, give it a try you poor thing... There is still hope for you though.

      Arno Young - 2011-10-03 15:04

@Zee. No not really. The verse starts with 'Fight them'... 'until..there prevail justice and faith in Allah"' It then proceeds 'if they cease'. Meaning after the initial fight instigated by Islam to subdue those who do not believe in Allah. You would say it is corrective discipline to help those 'poor' things, I'd say its proselytizing by the sword.

      BABaracus - 2011-10-03 16:51

At Zee, DonQuixote and Slojam: It is simply ridiculous of you to try and obfuscate or deny the hatred and violence that Islam teaches and that is part of its doctine. You can choose to interpret it any way you like, but islamists choose to interpret the words literally, and the results can be seen in violent oppression, hatred and war wherever muslims are: Somlia, Kenya, Nigeria, Sudan, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, the UK, the USA, Indonesia, Pakistan, India, Russia, Bosnia/Herzogvinia, Lebanon, France, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands. Are all these cases where muslims kill non-muslims the fault of Israel? Are they all because of the West? No - muslims must take responsibility for the fact that in the vast, vast majority of violent conflicts the world, including genocides against people (and I mean real genocides, not the rubbish about the Palestinians), including in Sudan, Somalia, and against the Kurds in various countries, the Christians in Lebannon and Egypt and Nigeria, the Hindus in India, it is muslims on the other side, quoting the same self quran quotes that you deny.

      slojam - 2011-10-04 10:11

@BA - Islam in no way preaches hatred and violence. Think whatever you may, you are a Jew lost in the cr@p that the Zionist controlled media spews out at you. Muslims are there to stay, where ever in the world they may be. The west will try till the end of time and never be successful to rid themselves of Islam. What is going on in Palestine IS genocide and you as with all Zionist will continue to dispute the fact out of shame. I see you also failed to mention other genocides that will let the world its head hang in shame... Serbia? the Crusades? Are you proud of it? Vietnam? WW2? The genocide by the west on the innocent of Iraq? The list goes on... Anyway Jewboy, your twisted views of what you precieve to be going on and what you think should be doesnt matter. Cheers! :)

      geeghey - 2011-10-04 15:06

@ slotoejam- what a joke, typical hate filled radical muslim propoganda from a camel jockey rag head! like being called names? i think that you should go help your poor brothers currently being butchered by the GENOCIDE taking place in sysria by standing in front of an asad tank instead of mouthing off like an ignorant hypocrit preaching about the "right path". oh well, guess there is no hope for a poor thing like you who has to resort to hate speech and to try get a point across.

      daaivark - 2011-10-04 15:17

geeghey: You're not doing too badly on that front yourself, are you.

      slojam - 2011-10-05 12:22

@geeghey - Ok dude, whatever ices your cake. But it seems like the truth is twisting your undies. Shame man.

  • 4_Way_Test - 2011-10-03 15:05

I am always amazed how people read Religeous Doctrim and read the words and not the message. Arguing what color Moses was...Eish. People really do not get the point. This sort of argument gives all religions a bad name.

      Kenny Mahara - 2011-10-03 15:18

Ostrich Dont be like an ostrich now .......... take yr head out of the sand and read every entry ... maybe then ... you will realise why "colour" came in.

  • BABaracus - 2011-10-03 17:00

What is truly amazing about all these anti-Jewish, anti-Israel, racist comments, is that the people making them do not even bother to read the story, which is about the fact that there are Arab Israelis who can live, practice and work anywhere they want in Israel, how the Israeli government has condemned the vandalism, and how it is because Israelis who feel wronged by being forcefully removed from settlements that are the perpetrators. Yet all you do is churn out the same rubbish about how Jews are so evil, Israel is so oppressive. The article is the very proof of the opposite. And yet it is a documented fact that in the Palesitinian territories and most arab states, that is where REAL apartheid exists. Jews cannot live, practice or work there. There places of worship are destroyed, often with active assistance of the government. Fact is, your comments are unfair, unbalanced and prejudiced.

      BABaracus - 2011-10-03 17:38

Aaaa I see what you are Frank - you are a full on-Jew hater who will ignore any fact that disproves your racist attacks on Jews. You fail to address the issues I raise. You are just a hypocrite, a racist and a liar. You make this allegation, which I have certainly never read about, and you just ignore the facts which PROVE you are a hypocrite, a racist, a Jew-hater and a liar. OK - that is your choice, but don't try to pretend to be something other than that.

      BABaracus - 2011-10-03 17:53

Frank - I have my doubts that you are black. But in any event, I have clearly demonstrated to you that Israel is not a racist country, nor does it oppress black people, on the contrary, and that there are black Jews living in Israel. The arabs and muslims, on the other hand, commit acts of genocide against Africans, which you ignore, and teaches in the quran that Jews are pigs and apes, again something you ignore. Judaism accepts all people of all ethnicities and races. Arabs still trade African slaves. To this day. What do you say about that? Do you know who were the only other people besides blacks in the Rivonia trial in which Mandela was prosecuted? Jews. There are countless examples to prove that Jews do not have the view you allege Maimonides held.

      BABaracus - 2011-10-03 17:59

Thank you very much Frank. Sure - any time. Peace be upon you. Shalom.

I am an Israeli Jew. I blame and totally disagree with this type of criminal activity. -- Although many mosques are hate preaching hubs those who done this crime should be jailed and outlawed. -- We -the Jews- regardless political orientation (I don’t support the left meretz)-should behave in line with our high 3500 years moral values. We should never copy our cosines values and moral behavior. The once starting with vandalism may one day adopt as well Arab terrorism against civilians. -- We should guard the principle of Israel independence declarations: *"will guarantee full freedom of conscience, worship, education and culture" *" will safeguard the sanctity and inviolability of the shrines and Holy Places of all religions"
