Clinton: Gay rights equal to women's rights

2011-12-06 22:43

Geneva - US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is telling other diplomats that cultural practices or religious tradition are no excuse for discriminating, or worse, against gay people.

Making an unusually strong statement in defence of gay rights, Clinton says they are equal to women's rights and racial equality and should be universal human rights.

She criticised nations that criminalise gay behaviour or tolerate abuse of gay, bisexual or transgendered people, though she did not identify those nations by name.

The Obama administration says it will now make treatment of gays a factor in the awarding of foreign aid.

Clinton's audience in Geneva, home of the United Nations' human rights body, included diplomats from Arab, African and other nations with poor records on gay rights.

no person or country has the right to dictate the lives or rules to any other state, any law must by the very definition of Democracy be put to test by referendum before being passed into law. if the result of a referendum is to ban or make gay partnerships illegal then its is to be made law in terms of the majority vote. Something most so called Democracies seem to have forgotten in their dash to becoming fully fledged undercover dictatorships, The US being one of the worst offenders. There is also no such thing as a universal human right, this being simply a pretense for enforcing ones own views no matter how perverted on ones neighbors. Also the basic requirement of a Democracy requires each race group to be counted as one point, the point being awarded for a majority vote, each of the race groups point is then added to the total to get an outcome, this is the only system which allows for free and fair voting practices as no group has an advantage over another on the basis of population numbers alone, of course who know all this already you just don't have the guts to fight for your rights finding easier to simply be a slave to big brother who is most definitely watching, recording and following your every move.

If you are a minority in a democracy where majority opinion is supposed to prevail, are you suggesting that the fundamental basis of democracy is irrelevant - as long as you get your own way all the time? In a democracy, everyone gets to vote because they are all deemed to have been born with the same rights. So it can be undemocratic for a majority to oppress minorities, because this conflicts with the rationale of the democracy in the first place.

Dear Hillary Clinton, congratulations on equating gay rights to women's rights and racial equality and to propose that gay rights should also be a universal human righ. (Big round of applause in receiving a huge bouquet of pink orchids on your liberating speech). Dear, maybe you should peek through your penthouse window into your own "back yard" where same-sex marriage is not recognised (illegal) in 41 out of 50 U.S. states ??
