Cow kills man in Muslim feast

2012-10-27 16:01

Gaza City - A Gaza health official says that a panicking cow has killed a Palestinian man who was trying slaughter the beast during the Muslim celebration of Eid al-Adha.

Muslims around the world slaughter sheep, cows and goats during the four-day holiday to commemorate the sacrifice by their forefather Abraham.

But accidents are comment as people frequently buy animals to slaughter at home instead of relying on professional butchers.

Official Ashraf al-Kidra said on Saturday that another 150 more people were hospitalised in Gaza with knife wounds or other injuries caused by animals attacking butchers or bystanders.

In Gaza, impoverished families scrimp all year to pay for part of a sheep or cow. Many also distribute the meat to even poorer families, giving the celebration a sense of communal solidarity.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU FEED A POOR PERSON? OR YOUR COMMUNITY? vegetarians know how to cook n feed ppl 2

      Lyndatjie - 2012-10-27 19:02

Poor Mariam.... your intollerance is showing. I'm a Buddhist and it is an affront to our religion to kill a living animal for food. Every weekend we work as a community to feed the poor and to uplift by feeding the soul with skills. Unfortunately you chose to make an assumption based on your own limited knowledge. We do not wait for a special occasion or religious day to feed the needy - we do it as a way of life. Now if you truly want people to understand your faith and what this special day entails for you - then educate instead of throwing emotional tantrums and assumptions to all and sundry.

      Lyndatjie - 2012-10-27 19:47

The needy and the poor are the ones losing out when people spend more time defending their religions instead of living their religions... Good for you for having the passion to help those in desperate need, keep on doing it no matter the opposition you get. Every bit helps - no matter what the nay-sayers would like to believe. Just remember that when we use kindness, patience and love - we could ignite a little flame in the worst sceptics! Have a blessed weekend and peace to you and your family.

I can now see why cows are regarded to be sacret in India.

      mariam.adam.16 - 2012-10-27 18:05

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU FEED A POOR PERSON? OR YOUR COMMUNITY? p.s:I am Muslim Indian and I saved up money to buy a sheep to slaughter so that I could feed the poor...what did u do?

      erich.goosen - 2012-10-27 19:32

There is a huge difference between slaughtering an animal to feed the hungry and the senseless killing of animals for the sake of having a festival.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU FEED A POOR PERSON? OR YOUR COMMUNITY? the guy died trying to feed the poor

      MerryMartin - 2012-10-27 19:53

@mariam: I said I was sorry the man died. Having said that, the mere fact that the cow panicked means that the conditions under which it was being slaughtered were NOT HUMANE. Whilst I try very hard to respect all other religions, I cannot, do not and will not ever condone slaughter of animals under inhumane conditions for any reason whatsoever. I wish you a blessed Eid. Peace and blessings.

Let me see,the media is gonna be saying this cow was a genetically modified cow created by the Zionists to kill Palestinians and will find some way to blame this on Israel as the media typically does. Anyway, RIP to the man that was killed.

Jesus when will people learn to do good(sometime constructive ) instead of sit back and critique people that are trying ?

      alaina.erasmus - 2012-10-27 18:44

It's funny that you are getting so upset about a few comments here (barely any that are really offensive) yet you have no issue usings Jesus' name in vain, which would offend many Christians and Catholics. Respect works both ways.

      mariam.adam.16 - 2012-10-27 18:58

lv have you read the comments ?:)...and i didnt use Jesus'name in vain ...he is My Prophet n i would never offend him.... the word "Jesus" has become an expression that most pplz use....i picked it up from my christian friends then they dont seem to mind

      mariam.adam.16 - 2012-10-27 19:03

anyway, thats off topic... all the Prophets(Jesus A.S , Mohammed A.S , Noah A.S , Jacoob A.S, Moosa A.S ,Ebraheem A.S etc)thot me to give in sacrifice and feed the poor... thats the summary of the story :) p.s: Im sorry if you took it offensively

      harold.pennington.5 - 2012-10-27 19:25

Madam you are a hypocrite. You offend Christians by taking their saviour's name in vain, something that is expressly forbidden in their religion. I believe you're intelligent enough to understand this. Exactly what would be your reaction had any person on this site used your Holy Prophet's name in an identical manner? I think we all know the answer to that one. You also assume people are not assisting the poor in their community because they condemn the ritual slaughter of animals, something that is quite unnecessary in the civilized world. Madam you need to stop judging on insufficient evidence.

      cherri.pye.5 - 2012-10-27 20:31

You didn't use Jesus' name in vain??? Not the brightest crayon in the box are you? Now do everyone a favour and STFU. Stop trying to blow your own horn here about how many poor people you feed. What are you looking for? A Noddy badge?

      frank.reidrobertson - 2012-10-28 11:55

I hope Jesus was not used as a swear word.

  • debra.warrens - 2012-10-27 19:17

I am an animal rights advocate. What happened here with this cow was NO accident, it was KARMA! What you do in this LIFE, comes back to YOU! These cows are SENTINEL animals and they have the same feelings and emotions we have. This cow sensed what was going to happen to him and was fleeing for his life, just what we would do. The time has come for all cultures to move FORWARD and accept COMPASSION. STOP KILLING ANIMALS and CHOOSE COMPASSION! There are plenty of other food choices a person can eat without killing animals. The way some of these countries kill these animals is also very cruel, abusive and inhumane as well. They have NO ANIMAL WELFARE LAWS to begin with. These animals are treated with no respect from the time they are purchased from the dock or the market and thrown into the trunk of a car. They are treated as an object with no feelings, heart or soul. Just a THING. This man got exactly what he had coming to him and this should be a WARNING to these people and this CULTURE in this LAND. It's time to CHANGE and move to a MEAT FREE DIET. It's time to RESPECT ALL THESE ANIMALS AS EQUAL, living, breathing, animals who just want to live and run free. RESPECT NATURE.

      SarcasticAgnostic - 2012-10-27 22:20

An omnivore killing something to eat and/or share with the herd, IS respecting the natural way of things. Therefore eating meat is NOT disrespectful to nature.

      omphile.mongale - 2012-10-27 23:28

Poor cow. I would also panic if some was trying to saw through my throat and bleed me to death.

  • douglas.reid.921 - 2012-10-27 21:21

Infidel cows. Funny how in India cows are sacred and revered but in pakistan they are slaughtered in sacrifice. Both are indians separated by religion.

  • ewald.kruger.7 - 2012-10-27 22:19
