London - A fire has erupted at Eastbourne Pier after one of the arcade buildings caught alight at the popular seaside resort, Sky News reports.

Police evacuated scores of tourists and beachgoers from the attraction, the news channel reported.

There are unconfirmed reports that people may have leapt into the sea to escape the flames.

A witness told Sky that the fire was out of control and the front of the pier was totally alight.
