Ex-French president guilty of corruption

2011-12-15 13:01

Paris - A French court has found former President Jacques Chirac guilty of embezzling public funds and other charges in a trial over illegal financing of the conservative party he long led.

He's the first former French head of state to face prosecution since the World War II era.

But Chirac, who is 79-years-old, did not take part in the trial after doctors determined that he suffers severe memory lapses.

The court said on Thursday it had found Chirac guilty in two related cases involving fake jobs created at the party he led during his 1977-1995 tenure as Paris mayor.

Chirac has repeatedly denied wrongdoing.

Beware Zuma, you might still have another few days in court. He has so many children and wifes, he is due to make another few costly mistakes.

      Blade - 2011-12-15 14:06

Heres a appears that in European (civilised) countries, politicians are held accountable for fraud. Unlike here.

This place isn't so bad. You see even the French are stealing!

      Blade - 2011-12-15 16:18

@Ibhubesi the reason I presumed that jowza might be suffering from a slow puncture is that I recently read a report that confirms that AIDS can lead to mental illness...

      Paul - 2011-12-15 16:52

A little bird told me Chirac was born in SA!

  • Brendan - 2011-12-15 13:21

    He's also got Shaik-a-lie- tis!!

  • Cameronl - 2011-12-15 13:52

As long as there are humans there will always be corruption, drugs and warfare, its a sad fact, just looking at our colourfull history it seems that this is all we (humans) are capable of.

      TamaraSays - 2011-12-15 15:31

True. The issue isn't whether it's possible in other countries - it's how, and if, they deal with it. I notice auntie Sheryl Cwele is still living large. Perhaps we can send her off to a thai jail too, just to be fair?

  • TamaraSays - 2011-12-15 15:29

Let him come to SA. We like corrupt politicians here. He can go to hospital, and then go play golf with shaiky.

  • Gillian - 2011-12-15 16:12

I am sure he has a "memory" lapses "no sir I dont remember embezzling that money" Things are just as bad in rest of the world people

      Blade - 2011-12-15 16:41
