Face of US changing, election shows

2012-11-10 22:13

Washington - The face of America is changing, and that means its elections will look different, too.

Tuesday's election drove home demographic trends that have been embedded in the fine print of birth rates and immigration statistics for years.

America is getting more diverse.

Non-whites made up 28% of the electorate this year, compared with 20% in 2000.

Much of that growth comes from Hispanics.

The trend helped Barack Obama win two elections in a row.

Obama won 80 percent of the growing ranks of nonwhite voters this year.

Mitt Romney lost even though he dominated among white men, who make up an ever-shrinking slice of America.

Another trend: more single women, because of divorce and later marriage.

Single women are more likely to say they are Democrats.

Yup, a can of beans on an open fire has more merit than this article.

There you have it! The Russian Zoronovsky predicted the election of the first non-white president would precede a long list of non white presidents and that if America does not curb immigration, whites in America would be a minority by 2025. He was also correct when he predicted in 1998 that Sweden would be governed by a Muslim majority by 2020.

      arthur.hugh - 2012-11-11 02:56

      Muslims run Sweden?

The US and Brazil have never been white countries since the day these countries were founded. However, the whites in these countries have been in denial that their countries were not all white.

      Shaun Daly - 2012-11-11 09:38

Lumping Brazil in with the US to make your point doubly shows your ignorance. A) Whites have been a majority since the late 1700s, theres absolutely nothing to say otherwise. B) Brazil is a class, not race, based society. Had you ever been there, known any you'd know that.

It will be a case like South Africa where the one who contribute the least to the economy will have the most say....another Zimbabwe and South Africa.

      fidel.mgoqi - 2012-11-11 08:00

Who contributes the least to the economy in SA, and am interested in how you quantify this? This should be interesting!

      patrick.mettle.7 - 2012-11-11 09:29

Democracy can never last forever. As we are seeing in the USA. People will vote for whoever offers them more out of the tax paying kitty. They will demand more and do less until the kitty is unable to support the handouts and along will come a revolution and change of government style. We seeing that here, promised a free house each, free elec, grants etc, nore more, but the small tax base can't handle it. If the ANC does not change its ways, the youth will revolt. We seeing the early warning signs due to all the corruption here.

  • masupa.tsela - 2012-11-11 07:35

Is the case in SA as well. With whites leavinh the country, who will vote for DA to increase number? 1) The increasing black coconuts (who are not into politics, but will do it for nighbourly reasons!) 2) Poor coloureds ( in CT and PE) 3) giving whites double or multi-citizenship. \r\nOnly 1) and 3) are a problem in the world. Why? Because just like US, whites vote for white candidate and other races vote for non white (Democrat). Even here whites must make DA win! Or DA can choose to die and come new. And black leaders like Maimane (married to white woman) and Mazibuko will never help DA because we blacks know that \wise man,foolish\ man is what is being used by DA.

      Preach!!!

      patrick.mettle.7 - 2012-11-11 09:21

You both morons. Obama was voted in by the whites, twice. Read the statistics. Non whites made up 20% for his first term and 28% for the second. If you think that's enough votes for a win then I assume you must agree with the ANC education policy.

      boaz.yarmarkov - 2012-11-12 06:48

70% of people who voted for Obama were white

  • Swapie - 2012-11-11 07:57

Non-whites : This word is racist.News24 : why you allow your people to use this word?its unacceptable

      themba.monare.5 - 2012-11-11 13:25

Zolisa what's racist about \ non-wjites\ Non-white simply means anyone who is not regarded as a \white\ person...stop making every racist because I can see that your understanding of racism is very limited.

  • Sibusiso - 2012-11-11 08:05

I'm not non-white.I'm Afrikan. There is a history to some members of the population contributing the list to the growth of the economy,it is called racial discrimination. The laws of the country prior to the '90s ensured that certain members of the population became workers or employees. These laws prevented these members from becoming entrepreurs. This was also done through the provision of inferior education. My grandfather ran a successful business in the so-called reserve ,he however could not expand it beyond that because the racist laws did not allow for that.He was a 'native' and therefore could not enter the white man's turf.He would probable be another Raymond Ackerman.Eighteen years into democracy the ANC is faring any better esp in the field of education.

      Sibusiso - 2012-11-11 10:24

Sorry, I meant the ANC is NOT farring any better! They should have used the past 18 yrs to produce world class black entrepreneurs.Unfortunately they are the only ones rich ,not bcos they are entrepreneurs but bcos they are in government.Sad!
