Copenhagen - A 31-year-old man will be sent to a secure psychiatric unit in Denmark for four weeks because he posted terrorism threats on Facebook, a court ruled on Wednesday.

At the request of the prosecution and police, the court in the Copenhagen suburb of Frederiksberg ordered that the hearing be held behind closed doors due to the ongoing investigation, news agency Ritzau reported.

Shortly before the courtroom was cleared, prosecutor Jakob Buch-Jepsen told the court that the man - who was arrested on Tuesday - was the only suspect, Ritzau reported.

In a statement, police said the threatening posts had appeared on the man's Facebook page starting in November.

The court noted that the man has a previous conviction from 2006 for making threats against then Danish prime minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen and was, at the time, ordered to undergo treatment as he was diagnosed as suffering from schizophrenia, Ritzau said.

The man admitted to creating the posts, but denied the charges of incitement, as the posts were an expression of his views, attorney Peter Hjorne said.

Hjorne, who also represented the man in 2006, told Ritzau his client was born in Moscow and spent his early childhood in Georgia before coming to Denmark.

One of the posts read that the man felt like killing "a racist, blasphemer or a military infantryman".
