Gaza rocket hits south of Jerusalem

Jerusalem - A rocket struck just south of Jerusalem on Tuesday as UN chief Ban Ki-moon was to arrive for talks on ending the Gaza crisis, AFP correspondents said.

A loud explosion could be heard in the southern part of the city shortly after air raid sirens were sounded, with police confirming that searches were under way.

Police said the rocket had crashed into an open area in the West Bank settlement bloc of Gush Etzion, just south of Jerusalem, without causing any casualties.

"The rocket was found in the Gush Etzion area," spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld said. The Israeli military also confirmed a rocket had landed in the area.

Settlers living in Gush Etzion said they heard "a very loud explosion".

Minutes before the sirens rang out, an AFP correspondent in Gaza City reported hearing the loud report of an outgoing rocket.

The attack was claimed by Hamas's armed wing, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, which said it had fired "an M75 rocket at the occupied city of Jerusalem".

The UN chief, who spent the past two days in Egypt, had been scheduled to hold talks in Jerusalem with Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman.

A similar attack on Friday set sirens ringing around the city for the first time in decades, with police confirming a Hamas rocket had landed in an open area in the West Bank, just to the south of Jerusalem

See, the terrorists cry fowl, boo hoo, trying to get the world's sympathy, but then they continue to attack the women and children of Israel. Israel have a right to defend themselves against Islamic terrorism. GO ISRAEL!!!

      james.keen.944 - 2012-11-20 16:02

By your rational, Palestine have a right to attack Israel too. So in essence, you are not really saying anything - just taking a side. Fail.

gianni WOW angry much. Your post is very difficult to follow becuase of poor punctuation. I am guessing here, but you claim Christians have no right to open their mouths. What right do you claim to be an expert on Israel?

      james.keen.944 - 2012-11-20 16:05

By the rational you have so ignorantly applied, Palestine have equal right to "defend themselves against Islamic terrorism". In essence, you are not really saying anything of substance - merely taking a side. You sir, fail.

gianni, how many times are you going to post the same post? Do you think calling people names strengthens your opinion. Why don't you go and post on, they love people like you.

      Hakuna - 2012-11-20 16:07

Does fighting for your for whats been stolen from you become terrorism. Besides being stolen from you, you are pushed into a corner and then being fully controlled by the thief. Its like being a hostage in your own home locked up in a barbed wired room with no freedom whatsoever. would you sit back and smile or with you fight for whats yours... read this Now who's the terrorist???

      Desilusionada - 2012-11-20 16:47

@Hakuna - So Gaza, where no Israelis live, is stolen by Israel? Is the title deed of Gaza in the name of Israel? If so, then they can chuck the whole lot out like any landlord can do. Wonder what Israel did in 2005......

      Hakuna - 2012-11-20 17:33

@Desilusionada Gaza is one of the corners the palestinians have been pushed into. Its walled up nd barb wired. Everything going in and out is controlled by the IDF. They are pushed into a tiny corner and still not free...Now is this fair?? would you not fight for freedom if you in the same position. IDF even controls the ocean on the Gaza side. Remember Flotilla? Now tell me how is this justified by ignorant people like you who sympathize with Israel ?

      Desilusionada - 2012-11-20 18:50

@Hakuna So Israel now controls Egypt's borders as well? When did this happen? How were the Palestinians "pushed" into a corner when Israel ceded (unilaterally) the whole Gaza strip in 2005? Gaza has something like the 3rd highest population GROWTH in the world. You decide why. Somehow either people like it and immigrate there, or they have nothing else to do? So who is "pushing"? And there is a nice fence to keep the nasty Israelis out. Conveniently you forget about the wall Egypt built? You believe freedom means walking in and out of a sovereign country with what you like under your shirt? Why are these walls being built? Baghdad Wall Belfast Peace Lines Botswana / Zimbabwe Brazil Brunei / Limbang Ceuta border fence China / Hong Kong China / Macau China / North Korea Egypt-Gaza barrier Malaysia-Thailand border Melilla border fence Indo-Bangladeshi barrier Indo-Burma barrier Indian Kashmir barrier Iran-Pakistan barrier Israeli West Bank barrier Kazakh-Uzbekistan barrier Korean Wall Kruger National Park Kuwait-Iraq barrier Pakistan-Afghanistan barrier Russia / Chechnya Saudi-Yemen barrier Saudi-Iraq barrier Sharm el-Sheikh Turkmen-Uzbekistan barrier United Arab Emirates-Oman barrier United Nations Buffer Zone in Cyprus Greece / Turkey Uzbek-Afghanistan barrier Uzbek-Kyrgyzstan barrier Western Sahara, Berm of Of which the Indo-Bangladeshi barrier would be the longest at 3268 km. Stop trying to pull the victim card............

      Hakuna - 2012-11-20 21:35

@Desilusionada Egypt under Mubarak who was puppet for America, just like most other Arab states are, yes shunned the Palestinians. Now things have eased of and favoring Palestinians, just as most Arab country dictator governments are over thrown. In 2005 Israel so called ceded Gaza to Palestinian, just to ease of some pressure, but there presence was still made known and waited for the smallest excuse to take control again. Its easy for you and I to talk 1000s of miles away. My bro inlaw is Palestinian who's family moved to Saudi for work. They cannot even return to Palestine, Israel won't allow them. What we need forget is this is also not only a muslim jewish issue. Christians in gaza also suffer the same way as muslims there. No one can leave. You imagine living in a place where your children have to be locked down in school and have to wait an opertunity to run home as fast as possible because the Israeli soldiers are doing a raid in your country. What if Zim or Swazi did this to SA. controlled us completely. Everything and everyone leaving or entering are at there discretion, even through our waters. we cannot move without there approval. Even food is not guaranteed to enter. What would we do?? Yes there are walls being built to seperate countries but they are not there to lock another country in completely and other border countries don't just walk in and raid as they feel. Flotilla, RINGS A BELL. International aid was stopped because was en route to Gaza. Justice??

Funny how the Palestinians cry foul when Israel issues airstrikes.. What are they going to cry foul of now when they're even rocketing their own people now?
