German pensioner finds python in toilet

Berlin - A German pensioner got more than she bargained for when she lifted up her toilet seat to find a python of 1m long staring up at her, police said on Monday.

The 74-year-old from Schwanstetten in southern Germany immediately called the police, who attempted to flush the serpent from its hiding place.

"However, the reptile was in no mood to show itself to the officers so the fire brigade was called in. They opened a manhole in the garden and were able to remove it from the plumbing," a police statement said.

A snake expert was then called in as reinforcement.

She identified the serpent as a two-year-old royal python, normally not dangerous to humans, and offered to take it home until the owner steps forward.

"Until we have cleared up whom the reptile belongs to, the police have registered it as a lost item," concluded the police statement.

Lost item? Owner? A python? Are snakes in Germany being owned? In my area snakes are regarded as wild animals.

      Bruce - 2012-07-23 21:23

Since pythons are not indigenous in Germany, it must have escaped from a cage where it was kept as a pet, so yes it will have been "owned" in Germany since they are definitely not "wild animals" there, but would be classified as an exotic pet. Snakes in the toilet are not so unusual, some years ago a snake was found in the ladies toilet bowl. It was never caught since it "dived" away never to be seen again!

i don't understand what does this have to do with color! people of races own and love snakes nowadays, so people must stop using race to whatever they are saying! if you don't love snakes then don't comment, i would rather own a python than a dog!! i for one i am glad that python was never harmed!!
