Hamas says Israel 'failed in its goals'

2012-11-22 07:23

Cairo - Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal said late on Wednesday that Israel had "failed in all its goals" after a Gaza truce deal came into effect, while thanking Egypt's President Mohamed Morsi for his support.

"After eight days, God stayed their hand from the people of Gaza, and they were compelled to submit to the conditions of the resistance," Meshaal said.

"Israel has failed in all its goals," he told reporters in a Cairo hotel.

Meshaal also thanked ceasefire mediator Egypt, as well as Iran, which he said "had a role in arming" his Islamist movement.

"I would like to thank our dear Egypt, aided by the brave elected President Mohamed Morsi... Egypt acted responsibly and understood the demands of the resistance and the Palestinian people," he said.

Meshaal also praised Iran, despite "disagreements on the situation in Syria".

'Stop all hostilities'

The truce accord, a copy of which was obtained by AFP, calls on Israel to "stop all hostilities... in the land, sea and air including incursions and targeting of individuals".

It also urges the Palestinian factions to end "rocket attacks and all attacks along the border".

The agreement also said Israel would facilitate entry of goods into Gaza, which Israel has blockaded since Hamas violently seized the enclave from Palestinian Fatah rivals in 2007.

Meshaal said the agreement meant that all the crossings into Gaza would be opened.

He added his movement had "rejected Israel's conditions" for the ceasefire "except for stopping operations".

And the Hamas leader warned Israel against violating the agreement.

"If you commit, we will commit. If you do not commit, the rifles are in our hands," he said, adding "we will continue to arm ourselves".

Bus attack 'to send a message'

He said an attack on a Tel Aviv bus that injured 17 people on Wednesday "was assisted by God at the right moment to send a message".

Islamic Jihad leader Ramadan Shallah, who sat next to Meshaal, said "what happened was an exceptional failure in the history of" Israel.

"We will strive to acquire all we can to defend ourselves," Shallah said.

Earlier, Egypt announced the ceasefire agreement would come into effect at 19:00 GMT on the eighth day of Gaza-linked violence that has killed at least 155 Palestinians and five Israelis.

So he admits that it is nothing to loose 150 odd of your own people - it is part of the plan, since he still see the 2900% (150 vs 5) higher death rate on his side as a victory. Israel achived what they wanted to - and this guy wants Israel to break the truce, that is why he is talking about arming them ect.....just so they can sacrifice more woman and children, and tell the world how innocent they are.

When will the world simply just ignore these people, every time its the same old story, they bomb the S@#! out of each other and then call a truce. They are simply attention seekers, hell living in a desert must get boring. But really this is just too much...nobody cares what you people do to each other. Get a life.

      customdesign - 2012-11-22 08:54

He has to claim victory to get Hamas soldiers behind him. If they are seen to have lost the rocket attacks will continue. Israel did succeed in their goals though, that being not being attacked by rockets. Hamas got great PR for their organisation with many countries backing them. If the truce can hold it will be a win for both sides. Israel does not get attacked by rocket fire and Palestine see their borders open, maybe even independence if they behave.

      fred.fraser.12 - 2012-11-22 09:48

Alimayet, you're not helping the Palestinians one iota by by believing their tragic manipulations. All they have to do is recognize the right to Israel TO EXIST. Abundance will be theirs virtually overnight. The world is waiting for them to do this. You're maintaing the tragic status quo. It's up to you to change.

      peanutcluster - 2012-11-22 11:03

Jewish settlers arrive from Eastern Europe, steal the land from the original Palestinian inhabitants, confine them to bantustans, treat them like 3rd class citizens in the land of their birth and then dictate how they should react to the injustice! And because the settlers have a bigger stick, more resources and better access to the media the Palestinian victims get blamed and branded as terrorists! Sound familiar? Remember swart gevaar, rooi gevaar, total onslaught, state of emergency? Same thing, different geography and actors! The outcome will be the same, its only a matter of time!

"Israel receives at least $8.2mil in military support from the US EVERY DAY. " So does Pakistan and India and Egypt. You have a problem with any of those ????. "Palestinians receive $0." Umm No. The head terrorist thanked Iran for it's military and financial support. "1967-Present 0 Israeli homes have been demolished" Ummm no. The IDF demolished Israeli homes in Gaza. And illegal Israeli structures on the WB. "6.4% unemployment in Israel." You have a problem with people who work hard ????. "40% unemployment in Gaza strip." Could be 0 % if they put away the rockets. It's called the peace dividend. Hamas does not want that. They want a 'waqf' and 'dhimmitude' for the Jews. Next bunch of 'facts' that I can blow out of the sky like an Iron dome rocket please.

      Tony-Lapson - 2012-11-22 09:52

The claims of Israeli air strikes deliberately targeting children is unfounded. It is well known that children were victims of the explosions, but it is bound to happen if you are unable to separate your militia from civilians. They fire from residential areas without any evacuation plans for the women or children? Every single nation in conflict knows that you get your most precious civilians out of a war zone as soon. Are there even any proper leaders?

Only time will tell... Truth is Israel attacked Gaza for one simple reason, To stop the many months of rocket fire on southern Israel because if it did not react heads would roll in the Israeli government. So, if the rockets stop then Israel has achieved its objective and if the rockets continue then Israel failed in this war. The agreement by Egypt between Israel and Hamas for a ceasefire includs a point that the rockets must stop. If Hamas honors this agreement then Israel won this war, if Hamas breaks the agreement and continues to fire rockets then Israel lost the war but at the same time Hamas would anger the Egyptians, thus I believe that with time, we will see that Israel's objectives were met because there is no way Hamas would go against the Islamic brotherhood in Egypt.

      moses.mabhida.52 - 2012-11-22 09:37

no alimayet, it was Hamas.... Gaza only became violent in 2005 when this terrorist organization threw fatta members off the rooftops of Gaza and took control of the strip after having murdered Arafat a few years before.

I am pasting this from a friend: "Dear World, I understand that you are upset by us, here in Israel. Indeed, it appears that you are quite upset, even angry. Indeed, every few years you seem to become upset by us. Today, it is the "brutal repression of the Palestinians"; yesterday it was Lebanon; before that it was the bombing of the nuclear reactor in Baghdad and the Yom Kippur War and the Sinai campaign. It appears that Jews who triumph and who, therefore, live, upset you most extraordinarily. Of course, dear world, long before there was an Israel, we - the Jewish people - upset you.

      beverly.young3 - 2012-11-22 07:52

2nd part' "We upset a German people who elected Hitler and upset an Austrian people who cheered his entry into Vienna and we upset a whole slew of Slavic nations - Poles, Slovaks, Lithuanians, Ukrainians, Russians, Hungarians and Romanians. And we go back a long, long way in the history of world upset. We upset the Cossacks of Chmielnicki who massacred tens of thousands of us in 1648-49; we upset the Crusaders who, on their way to liberate the Holy Land, were so upset at Jews that they slaughtered untold numbers of us. For centuries, we upset a Roman Catholic Church that did its best to define our relationship through inquisitions, and we upset the arch-enemy of the church, Martin Luther, who, in his call to burn the synagogues and the Jews within them, showed an admirable Christian ecumenical spirit. And it is because we became so upset over upsetting you, dear world, that we decided to leave you - in a manner of speaking - and establish a Jewish state. The reasoning was that living in close contact with you, as resident-strangers in the various countries that comprise you, we upset you, irritate you and disturb you. What better notion, then, than to leave you (and thus love you)- and have you love us and so, we decided to come home - home to the same land we were driven out 1,900 years earlier by a Roman world that, apparently, we also upset.

      beverly.young3 - 2012-11-22 07:53

Alas, dear world, it appears that you are hard to please. Having left you and your pogroms and inquisitions and crusades and holocausts, having taken our leave of the general world to live alone in our own little state, we continue to upset you. You are upset that we repress the poor Palestinians. You are deeply angered over the fact that we do not give up the lands of 1967, which are clearly the obstacle to peace in the Middle East. Moscow is upset and Washington is upset. The "radical" Arabs are upset and the gentle Egyptian moderates are upset. Well, dear world, consider the reaction of a normal Jew from Israel. In 1920 and 1921 and 1929, there were no territories of 1967 to impede peace between Jews and Arabs. Indeed, there was no Jewish State to upset anybody. Nevertheless, the same oppressed and repressed Palestinians slaughtered tens of Jews in Jerusalem, Jaffa, Safed and Hebron. Indeed, 67 Jews were slaughtered one day in Hebron in 1929. Dear world, why did the Arabs - the Palestinians - massacre 67 Jews in one day in 1929? Could it have been their anger over Israeli aggression in 1967? And why were 510 Jewish men, women and children slaughtered in Arab riots between 1936-39? Was it because Arabs were upset over 1967?

      beverly.young3 - 2012-11-22 07:54

4th: "And when you, dear world, proposed a UN Partition Plan in 1947 that would have created a "Palestinian State" alongside a tiny Israel and the Arabs cried "no" and went to war and killed 6,000 Jews - was that "upset" caused by the aggression of 1967? And, by the way, dear world, why did we not hear your cry of "upset" then? The poor Palestinians who today kill Jews with explosives and firebombs and stones are part of the same people who when they had all the territories they now demand be given to them for their state -attempted to drive the Jewish state into the sea. The same twisted faces, the same hate, the same cry of "itbach-al-yahud" (Massacre the Jew!) that we hear and see today, were seen and heard then. The same people, the same dream - destroy Israel. What they failed to do yesterday, they dream of today, but we should not "repress" them. Dear world, you stood by during the holocaust and you stood by in 1948 as seven states launched a war that the Arab League proudly compared to the Mongol massacres.

Sometimes I question my support for Israel, for example the use of white phosphors was a crime in 2009. However, on the whole I blame the lack of peace squarely at the feet of the religion of peace. The arabs start all the wars and israel ends the wars. Islam wants an apartheid in the Arab world - Muslim only! Israel is a huge block to this arab dream. And thus I am a huge supporter of Israel, and I hope peace will come one day. Israel has every right to defend itself and I am glad that this time they made zero mistakes.

In response to your comment, i never read anywhere that an Israeli thanked God in the circumstances of the article under reference. Hence my response. But bless u, i hope you find the courage to fight for innocent victims, whether direct, indirect or potential, wherever they are and whosoever they may be .....

Well they have stopped you from shooting rockets at innocent civilians. When they shoot back they target the culprits not innocent women and children. But of-course innocent Palestinians died because you and your cowards use them as shields.

      mohammed.salahudeen.7 - 2012-11-22 10:11

@John, deluded much or have the Zionists installed one of those brain washing devices in your skull.

      mohammed.salahudeen.7 - 2012-11-22 10:31

@cleve.fletcher, I would ask you to go and have your brain scanned to prove my point, but Im afraid of what else you would find inside there. And yes I assume you live in the same sty as the rest of the Zionists.

      mohammed.salahudeen.7 - 2012-11-22 10:49

@Cleve.Fletcher, your backside must really get Jealous of all the crap coming out of your mouth. You talk about Hate Filled Lunatics? Im sure we both agree that it is the Zionists. And im glad we both agree that they are Porky's as you so eloquently put it.

      sibusiso.hlongwane.92 - 2012-11-22 11:16

Hamas is the big winner in all of this, international sympathy and concessions. Israel for whatever reason, either operational or behind the scenes pressure from the US, did not want to go in.

  • mohammed.salahudeen.7 - 2012-11-22 10:05

Palestine- Freedom Fighters. Israel- Terrorists. The Palestinians are surrounded by and persecuted by the Israelis on a daily basis, and the Israelis feel threatened? More like Guilt. The Israeli/Zionists are waiting for the day that they will pay for their sins. And for those of you who believe that Israel is acting in self defence, its the same as me Klapping you, and saying your face hit my hand.

      tommy.jones.754918 - 2012-11-22 11:14

Please put your last sentence in context for me. Are you saying "Israel" Klapping Hamas and then they complain about the Hamas "head" hitting the Israeli hand? In this instance we have to consider who initiated the immediate aggression (Hamas vs Israel). In this instance all evidence indicates that Hamas send the first rocket towards Israel, in other words doing the Klapping. No matter how you look at it, every action has a reaction. In this case the reaction is normally twice the action - with good reason (another debate). Now you want to tell me Israel is complaining about Hamas cheek hitting their hand. Dude, Israel was ready escalate their response, why would they complain.

      cleve.fletcher - 2012-11-22 11:20

You're wasting your time Tommy, this you have to treat this turkey like you would a retard with diminished responsibility.

      angela.nair.3 - 2012-11-22 13:47

Saying Jews live in a sty Mohammed - with Muslims? You can rant and rave all you want - Palestinians fire missiles over Israel all the time - then they DO hide behind innocent civilians - their arsernals is hidden in amongst homes, schools and hospitals - Why dont you put in the same effort to condemn Syria? Or is it ok for Arab to kill Arab - and your rhetoric is getting a bit stupid now - you need to be ignored - and - why dont you go to Palestine and help the poor people there - instead of being an armchair critic - And hope an Israeli missile does not hit you! Go to the frontlines for your cause!

  • kadwa - 2012-11-22 10:21

The Palestinian people have the right to defend themselves against an army that murders children, women and civilians ; that humiliates them 24/7, locks them up like sheep(nay worse that sheep), starves them, demolishes their homes & usurps their property. This is the Palestinian Holocaust, at the hands of the very people who claim to have experienced it.

I just got this on my email and I thought I would share it: "50 Grooms Wed Girls Under Ten In Gaza By Paul L. Williams, Ph.D. Thelastcrusade! A gala event has occurred in Gaza . Hamas sponsored a mass wedding for four hundred and fifty couples. Most of the grooms were in their mid to late twenties; most of brides were under ten. Muslim dignitaries including Mahmud Zahar, a leader of Hamas, were on hand to congratulate the couples who took part in the carefully staged celebration. We are saying to the world and to America that you cannot deny us joy and happiness, Zahar told the grooms, all of whom were dressed in identical black suits and hailed from the nearby Jabalia refugee camp." Each groom received a gift of 500 dollars from Hamas. The pre-pubescent girls dressed in white gowns and adorned with garish make-up! , received bridal bouquets. We are presenting this wedding as a gift to our people who stood firm in the face of the siege and the war, Local Hamas strongman Ibrahim Salaf said in a speech." Another fact: "The International Center for Research on Women now estimates that there are 51 million child brides now living on planet earth and almost all in Muslim countries. Twenty-nine percent of these child brides are regularly beaten and molested by their husbands in Egypt ; twenty six percent receive similar abuse in Jordan ."

Yeah I have seen the video and the sick!

  • sibusiso.hlongwane.92 - 2012-11-22 11:17

Yes This is a strategic victory for Hamas. They have demonstrated their ability to hit Israel in its heartland and they have survived.More importantly they have shown that resistance, not appeasement can win concessions from Israel. Israel initiated this war in the belief that they could batter Hamas into submission and they ended it by having to negotiate their way out. Israel does not come out of this looking good at all. I think Netanyahu is in for a rough ride from his own right wing over this. They will be asking why he presented a strategic victory to the resistance This is particularly important in terms of their relationship to the PA and Abbas. Abbas has been shown to be utterly utterly irrelevent throughout all this. He played no role in the ceasefire negotiations. He is supposed to present his UN bid for observer status next week and he is facing another humiliation as Israel and the US slap him down. The Palestinians in the West Bank have been enormously radicalised over this crisis. It has been little reported but there were outbreaks of rioting and demonstrations in virtually every town, many of them brutally crushed by the PA. I think Abbas is finished.

      cleve.fletcher - 2012-11-22 11:42

Sibusiso I think that you are underestimating an important element in your discussion. I don't think you really appreciate the kind of Israeli that lives in Israel and that you don't understand the furnace that forged them. Despite the jabbering of the denialists, the Holocaust was a real event. It really happened. Germany and the citizens of their occupied territories did everything in their power to exterminate the Jewish nation. For the past 2,000 years virtually every nation where they (the Jews) found themselves, persecuted them. They eventually reclaimed their homeland, and however unpalatable the fact may be, it is their homeland. And since then, they have dug in their heels and said "no more". And they mean it. They have nowhere to go. They are surrounded on every side by nations whose agendas are the total extermination of the Jews, not Israel, the Jews. Do not underestimate the resolve of the people. Ask the participants of the 6 day war whether or not they thought the Jews were serious about their survival. Hamas and their followers should be cautious, because also do not understand this. Don't take this offensively because none is intended. Peace

      mohammed.salahudeen.7 - 2012-11-22 11:48

@Cleve, Are you also on the Zionist Payroll to promote Propaganda? "Germany and the citizens of their occupied territories did everything in their power to exterminate the Jewish nation." <-- If this is what you believe, then why not bomb the Germans? Why bomb the muslims and innocents in Paelstine? Have you visited Palestine Cleve, my boy?

      dinesh.chetty.77 - 2012-11-22 11:56

Cleve, history is pasted. The only people being exterminated here is the Palestinians. FACTS for you: Since 2000 here are the facts: 126 Israeli kids dead vs 1476 Palestinian kids dead. 1096 Israelis dead vs 6568 Palestinians. 10792 Israelis injured vs 59575 Palestinians injured. Israel receives at least $8.2mil in military support from the US EVERY DAY. Palestinians receive $0. 0 Israelis prisoners vs 5604 Palestinians. 1967-Present 0 Israeli homes have been demolished vs 24813 Palestinian homes by Israel. 6.4% unemployment in Israel. 40% unemployment in Gaza strip.

      cleve.fletcher - 2012-11-22 12:28

@Dinesh - Well what these figures tell me Dinesh is that the Israelis are a damn site better at everything than the Palestinians. These figure kinda read like the 6 day war....

      sibusiso.hlongwane.92 - 2012-11-22 14:18

cleve.fletcher, no offence taken. I fully appreciate the tenacity of the average person living in Israel (and surrounds). My point above is that Netanyahu has made a critical strategic blunder and will possibly pay for it during the upcoming elections. Lets not forget that suddenly escalating tensions against their neighbours a few months before elections, is practically a tradition for Israeli governments.

      cleve.fletcher - 2012-11-22 17:06

You know Sibusiso, I honestly believe that the issue is very simple and fundamental. As I outlined, it's survival in a landscape of hatred and open aggression. I don't think it matters who gets elected, if Netanyahu loses or wins, the same naked issue stares the Israelis in the face and I can guarantee you that the only change of policy would be whether the level of military response would remain the same or escalate. They don't have the political luxuries that most nations enjoy, like I said, the issue is fundamental.

Whoever marries a woman because of her beauty, God will only increase him in ugliness. But whoever marries a woman in order that he may restrain his eyes, observe cautiousness, and treat his relations kindly, Allah puts a blessing in her for him and in him for her.” “When a man gives his daughter in marriage and she dislikes it, the marriage shall be annulled.” (Once a virgin girl came to the Prophet (p.b.u.h.) and said that her father had married her to a man against her wishes. The Prophet gave her the right to repudiate the marriage.) “Khansa’ b. Khidham reported that her father gave her in marriage, after she had became a widow. She disliked it and came to the Prophet. He annulled the marriage.” “The widow and the divorced woman shall not be married until their order is obtained, and the virgin shall not be married until her consent is obtained.” A report from Ibn Abbas states that the Prophet (p.b.u.h.) said: “A previously married woman is more a guardian for herself than her guardian and a virgin should be asked permission about herself, and her permission is her silence. ”

The prophet said to me: ‘O Abu Dhar! Did you abuse him by calling his mother with bad names? You still have some characteristics of ignorance.
