Huge protest against anti-Islam film

2012-09-30 12:00

Jakarta - Thousands of Muslims enraged over a film that denigrates the Prophet Muhammad have marched through Indonesia's capital.

Jakarta police spokesperson Colonel Rikwanto estimates at least 5 000 people joined the demonstration on Sunday. They marched to the US Embassy, which was guarded by hundreds of police, and staged a noisy but peaceful protest.

Participants in the rally, organised by the Islamic-based Prosperous Justice Party, chanted anti-American slogans and shouted "Allah akbar," or "God is great."

Many wore traditional white robes and held big banners reading, "Go to hell with your freedom of expression, Muslims unite against insults to Islam."

Protests against the film have also been held recently in other Indonesian cities.

It's obvious these muslims have got nothing better to do. By now this issue is old news!

      zaatheist - 2012-09-30 15:26

Betcha none of them have even seen the film. But them none of them have seen Allah either and they believe that BS as well.

I ahve never seen an atom, but believe it exists. We work on evidence to prove God's existance. If anybody wants to see the scientific evidence that the Quran is the word of God, refer to the works of Harun Yahya or Dr. Zakir Naik, Prof Keith Moore, Dr. Maurice Bucaille, etc. Peace

      zaatheist - 2012-09-30 17:17

tabib.asnan.3 I call BS. Tell you what. If you and you brainwashed mates can produce any evidence. any teeny weeny bit of evidence that can stand up to scientific evaluation and confirmation then we can be both rich and very famous. First we can claim the James Randi Foundation $1 Million prize for proving the existence of a supernatural entity and then we must be in lune for the Nobel Prize. You know why nobody has yet been awarded these prizes? Because there is no proof and you and as many of you fellow wishful thinkers that you quote is not going to change that fact.

Well done guys. You protested for something you believed in and you did it peacefully. Just hope that you have taught your counterparts in the middle East a thing or 2. I may be a bit naive, but I think that the peaceful protest works better. When people turn to violence, nobody is going to listen, instead they will find ways to get rid of you rather than co-exist peacefully... And when you get physical 1st, it's playground rules : He who throws the first punch is at fault !

      tabib.asnan.3 - 2012-09-30 16:14

Right, there was no protest when the attack in Libya took place. I'm suprised that people still are unaware of this.

  • GrootWitHaai - 2012-09-30 12:59

Pakistan, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Palestine, Somalia...all destructive and war ravaged countries with the most miltant people on earth. Are we really surprised that they take time out from more important tasks like working and building a nation for the future...

      tabib.asnan.3 - 2012-09-30 16:45

So we should insult he who they love more than themselves? Have a loving and open mind. Peace

      zaatheist - 2012-09-30 17:16

Wherever there is a country with a substantial Muslim population there is violence, atrocities and murder mainly perpetrated against fellow Muslims who believe in a different way to flatter the imaginary sky daddy who grants wishes. Religion of Peace. My @ss!

      Raymon - 2012-09-30 21:43

Zaatheist: I don't agree with your world view on religion, but on this comment you where 98% spot on! The only inaccuracy in my view is that their belief is in a sky daddy... Their belief is actually in the pointy tail daddy with the pitch fork.

      zaatheist - 2012-10-01 04:14

Raymon ........... I agree just so long as you don't criticise my beliefs in another version of the invisible sky daddy, hey?

  • carolyn.dewrance - 2012-09-30 13:22

So what thats the way they live so let them carry on. I am sick of religion taking charge of peoples lives. Let us live as we want with out religion and all that crap

      zaatheist - 2012-09-30 15:31

Mali, Kenya Nigeria, Bahrain, Yemen ................ in fact everywhere on the planet where there are significant numbers of adherents of the Religion of Peace there is extremism, violence, intolerance, terrorism and murder. Religion of Peace? PAH!

If anybody wants to see the scientific evidence that the Quran is the word of God, refer to the works of Harun Yahya or Dr. Zakir Naik, Prof Keith Moore, Dr. Maurice Bucaille, etc. Ofcourse there will be war where there are servants of God. If God exists, so does the devil. As they say in the States: "DUH" Peace

      henry.vanderburpenfart - 2012-09-30 20:36

Tabib - the fact that you believe in the atom yet are contnet with lacking the sufficient scientific understanding that makes it's existence fact is kind of what the problem is. Science starts with evidence/facts which are then connected to form a conclusion. Religion starts with a conclusion and then looks for evidence/facts to support it. When there is none to suffice (which is always the case) then the gaps (gaping chasms) are just filled with faith. The two are fundamentally incompatible.

Does the film, badly made as it is, denigrate Mohammed? It may surprise you to know that Mohammed, the founder of Islam was not a peace loving guy at all. Even some of the sayings that form the Qur'an can shed some light on the tensions experienced by Muslims, such as: Sura 14:4 ; 6:39 ; 16:93 – Allah may mislead a Muslim if it pleases him Sura 18:110 & 41:6 – Mohammed said he was “only human like you” so why could he do things no other Muslim could? He could take another man’s wife if he desired her (had 23 wives). Sura 4:89 – A Muslim’s relatives are commanded to kill a family member if they leave Islam. Sura 8:12 – “He who kills someone has the right to all his belongings.” Also referenced in Sahih Bukhari, Vol 4, Book 53, #370 and Sahih Muslim #4340 – 4344. Sura 32:13 – Allah could have brought everyone to the truth, but instead will fill Hell with them! No Salvation and mislead from the truth. Sura 9:27 + 47:4 – Inconsistent – commands to kill those who do not follow Islam and force them to submit or die, then also says He does not compel people to believe ! ?? Sura 2:256 I challenge any Muslim to go and read these verses from the Qur'an and ask him or herself, "Is Allah like you?" Does Islam promote peace and is it tolerant of the views of others? To be enraged due to commentary from one person with which you don't agree and then to attack representatives of the country he happens to be living in is pretty intolerant behavior. Yes?

      tabib.asnan.3 - 2012-09-30 16:34

My word, which Quran were you reading? 47:4 Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers (in fight), smite at their necks; At length, when ye have thoroughly subdued them, bind a bond firmly (on them): thereafter (is the time for) either generosity or ransom: Until the war lays down its burdens. Thus (are ye commanded): but if it had been Allah's Will, He could certainly have exacted retribution from them (Himself); but (He lets you fight) in order to test you, some with others. But those who are slain in the Way of Allah,- He will never let their deeds be lost. [9:27] Ultimately, GOD redeems whomever He wills. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful. It doesn't say kill gentiles for being born or kill black people because God created them to serve you or kill red indians and Vietnamese because there's a little bit of John Wayne in all of us. These people try to disfigure the face of Islam- stay true to your conscience and soon you will all see who the oppressors are. Watch confronting the evidence on youtube. Peace

      zaatheist - 2012-09-30 17:03

Any time someone says you can’t criticize their beliefs, it’s because their beliefs are too weak to withstand scrutiny.

  • Omnivore - 2012-09-30 14:28

      gerhard.kress.3 - 2012-09-30 18:59

Some guy trying to have some fun and the muslims took the bait. Since then the muslims killed more than 50 of their own in peaceful demonstrations. I have not stopped laughing yet. Go and look in the mirror. Everything is true.

      zaatheist - 2012-10-01 04:20

A preview of the video is freely available for viewing on U-tube. You should watch it some time if you can put up with poor acting. The depiction of the paedophile desert killer is quite good though.

  • Gcodi Mahomed - 2012-10-01 06:12

@zaathiest ,you are infatuated with paedophilia,im sure when the catholic priest have there way with young boys ,you wish you were on the receiving end!!

      zaatheist - 2012-10-01 16:59

  • pdevillet.patrik - 2012-10-01 09:20

toy-toying about it won't make any god appear or do anything about it because their are no prove that any exist and it will never shut freedom of expression. freedom of expression is there to stay,if you like it or not. You are wasting your energy at negative things instead of educating yourself. Instead of the bible, koran and others related books you should read Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchen to have a second opinion on religion. Google is your friend.
