Jakarta - An Indonesian court on Monday threw out a last-ditch appeal filed by two Australian drug convicts on death row, paving the way for their executions.

Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan challenged the decision by President Joko Widodo to deny them clemency, saying he did not consider their rehabilitation and contributions to other prisoners.

The State Administrative Court ruled that it had no jurisdiction to examine the president's rejection of clemency requests.

Chan, 31, and Sukumaran, 33, are facing execution along with eight drug offenders from other cases - three from Nigeria and one each from France, the Philippines, Indonesia, Brazil and Ghana.

No date for the executions has been announced.

Model prisoners

The Australian government and supporters of the men have urged Indonesia to stop the executions, saying they have been fully rehabilitated.

The two Australians have reportedly become model prisoners, with Chan conducting church services and Sukumaran giving art lessons to inmates.

Australia has also offered to pay the costs of life imprisonment for Sukumaran and Chan if their sentences were commuted, but Jakarta refused.

Sukumaran and Chan were among nine Australians convicted in 2006 for trying to smuggle some 8kg of heroin from the Indonesian resort of Bali to Australia.

Other defendants in the plot received prison sentences from 20 years to life.
