Iran claims it has circumvented sanctions

Tehran - Iran's oil minister claims his country has successfully circumvented sanctions on the sale of its oil.

State TV on Sunday broadcast comments by Rostam Ghasemi that the industry was in "bad shape" about two months ago due to the oil embargo by the West, "but we left the bottleneck behind, almost".

Ghasemi also said that Iran has set up its own insurance for ships that carry its oil after Western companies refused to cover them.

Iran's oil exports have fallen by about half in recent months due to the punitive oil and banking measures enacted by the US and Europe over concerns Tehran is pursuing nuclear weapons. The currency has also plummeted.

Iran denies that it is developing weapons. It has taken a consistently defiant tone toward the sanctions.

Why santions on iran ? ...when apartheid racist israel disregarding U N resolutions. Western hypocrisy and injustice!!

      avremel.niselow - 2012-12-23 18:54

UN resolutions are merely advisory, they are not laws. The UN does not determine international law. Israel is under no obligation to listen to them. There are sanctions against Iran as they have repeatedly threatened to wipe out another country while developing nuclear weapons.

Good on you Iran, you could expect such a move from a culture that has been playing chess for a couple thousand years now and while at it never accept dollars for your oil ever again. I suppose the Iranians have been watching Max Keiser on RT.

      AnthonyfromAfrica - 2012-12-23 20:50

. Forget about the small talk of chess !! Iran is a state that exports TERRORISM. Even your Russian and Chinese friends are wary of these scumbags !!! But, than, this comment coming from one of the lunatics of the violent left, should surprise no one!!! Especially if your heros are; assad mugabe ahmadinejad gaddafi putin chavez etc etc

Your position starts with a false assertion and ends with irrelevancies, and therefore I will treat it with the contempt that it deserves.
