Iran finds Reuters guilty over Ninjas

2012-09-30 21:51

Tehran - A Tehran jury on Sunday found the international news agency Reuters guilty of the crime of "propaganda against the regime" for a report mis-characterising female ninja students as assassins, Iranian media said.

Reuters was also found guilty of "publishing false information in an effort to disturb public opinion" over the ninja report published in February, Iran's official news agency IRNA said, quoting the Tehran prosecutor's office.

It is now up to the judge of the Tehran court to give a final verdict and any sentence. He was expected to do so in coming weeks, the channel Press TV reported, without giving a date.

Reuters can appeal a conviction.

The news agency, part of the New York-based Thomson Reuters group since 2008, issued a statement saying: "We understand that the jury has stated its view and we now await the court's ruling. We do not intend to comment further until a decision is issued."

The company was represented in court by its Tehran bureau chief, Parisa Hafezi, an Iranian national who has been prevented from leaving the country pending the outcome of the legal proceedings.

Office closed

Iranian authorities confiscated the press credentials of all staff in the Reuters bureau in March and suspended its operations.

The case stems from a Reuters video report on a group of female ninjas training in the martial art in the city of Karaj, west of Tehran.

The original headline on the story erroneously read "Thousands of female Ninjas train as Iran’s assassins".

Reuters subsequently changed the headline to read "Three thousand women Ninjas train in Iran". It later removed the report.

Reuters global editor in chief, Stephen Adler, told The New York Times newspaper on March 29 that the headline mistake was not malicious, and added: "I don't see factual errors in the story".

The authorities routinely monitor and restrict the activities of the few journalists working for foreign media in Iran.

Reuters is well known for the manipulation of news and current affairs. They serve their banker masters. News24 gets some of their articles from them. This comment will be deleted shortly by news24.

And the Tokolosh lives under my bed.

      jaba.kov - 2012-10-01 07:24

Actually, most of the content on news24 is form Aljazeera as per the agreement.

Al you need to know about ninja's :

@Jaba - no, that is not truth - nowhere does the article mention the amount of content to be provided, it merely mentions that content is provided. You are imprinting your racist intentions on to something completely innocent and distorting the the truth to serve your corrupted goals. Why don't you take your talent for creative interpretation and use it to "play nice with the rest of humanity" (that includes the Muslims) instead of trying to promote your lies by intimating that "most" content is Al Jazeera "by agreement" when none of this is in fact true. Put your racist crap aside and learn to live at peace with the rest of us. No you are NOT special and do NOT have divine right to spew your racist rhetoric.

The Ayatollah and his bitch Ahmadinejad believe the Holocaust was made up, didn't happen, and homosexuality is unnatural debauchery punishable by imprisonment. Perhaps best of all: single women who go snow-skiing on their own should be punished.

Almost as daft as Fidel believing Nelson Mandela is a phony, a lackey of the West, a modern-day Uncle Tom. :)

It was legal to hunt Abbo's up until 1969 in Austraila almost destroyed a who nation. America decimated the Indians, Britian put 60 000 to 80 000 Boer woman and children into consentration camps of which over 50 000 died, mainly children, and then they did it in India.

As for Fidel and your broken record of St Mandela as I said to u before not everyone in the world believes the PC crap about him. As an example ----> In fact the truth about Mandela is so hidden in mythology and misinformation that most know nothing about him prior to Robben island, and those who do tend to exercise a form of self censorship, designed to bolster the myth whilst consigning uncomfortable facts into the mists of history. Mandela was the terrorist leader of a violent terrorist organisation, the ANC (African National Congress) which was responsible for many thousands of, mostly black, deaths. Of course the forces of political correctness are rushing to amend that embarrassing reminder from the past. Before I am accused of calumny, it should be noted that Mandela does not seek to hide his past, in his autobiography 'the long walk to Freedom' he casually admits 'signing off' the 1983 Church Street bombing carried out by the ANC and killing 19 innocent people whilst injuring another 200.and there is no evidence that he personally killed anyone but the same could be said about Stalin or Hitler. According to the Human Rights Commission it is estimated that during the Apartheid period some 21,000 people were killed, however both the UN Crimes against Humanity commission and South Africa's own Truth and Reconciliation Commission are in agreement that in those 43 years the South African Security forces killed a total of 518 people. Enough said

Shane, what has any of this got to do with the topic at hand? Nothing. Silly really. Or trying to show off.

      shane.loxton - 2012-10-02 08:26

U brought it up with your remark about Fidel, so it is relavant and u brought the subject up! Same as your comments about me supporting the 911 conspiracy which till today you don't back up your statement? Secondly to show off would mean I have proved a point of fact, thanks for Acknowledging that ;-)

Almost every Jewish person I have met has been one that is incredibly aware of opposing views and very tolerant of them ... in fact even to the point of inviting discussion about opposing views in their quest for understanding (they do not try convert you to their thinking, nor are they trying to convert to yours, merely to understand your view.) This has been one of the most enriching aspects of interacting with a Jewish person, yet the average News 24 Jewish commenter is the "evil-opposite" of everything I know a Jewish person to be. I have never encountered such racism in a Jew as I have in the average News 24 Jewish commenter. I do not know where these people fell out of, or how they managed to materialize out of thin air and spew such utter, utter crap that opposes everything they are in person.

Hypocrisy much? "I'm not racist! My best friend is ..." This trope originally appeared in ‘All in the Family’, where arch-racist Archie Bunker denies that he is, well, racist. When challenged, it turns out that all these "friends" are actually shoe-shines, waiters and other people who work for him, rather than anyone he actually socializes with. In other words, what makes it invalid was that it wasn't true. However, the trope quickly mutated; it was soon used to connote the fact that even having real friends of a race doesn't preclude one from being bigoted against them. Recently, even making the claim as a defence has been construed as ipso facto evidence of racism. Now please point out the Jewish commentators to me seeing as your sense of smell is so developed.

Confessions of a paid internet shill. " ... My task? “To support Israel and counter anti-Israeli, anti-Semitic posters.” Fine with me. I had no opinions one way or another about Israel, and who likes anti-Semites and Nazis? Not me, anyway. But I didn’t know too much about the topic. “That’s OK,” she said. “You’ll pick it up as you go along. For the most part, at first, you will be doing what we call “meme-patrol.” This is pretty easy. Later if you show promise, we’ll train you for more complex arguments, where more in-depth knowledge is necessary.” ..." read more: and
