Iran ready to ramp up nuke programme

2012-11-15 22:19

Vienna - Diplomats say Iran is on the threshold of boosting output of material that can be turned into weapons grade uranium used in nuclear warheads.

One diplomat tells The Associated Press that Tehran is now technically ready within days to ramp up its production of 20%-enriched uranium by nearly 700 centrifuges.

That would nearly double present output at Iran's heavily fortified Fordo enrichment plant.

Two other diplomats could not confirm the 700 number but said Tehran has put a sizeable number of centrifuges at Fordo that were previously installed but not ready to operate under vacuum.

It takes only a few days to begin enrichment with machines that are under vacuum.

Iran denies wanting nuclear arms.

The diplomats demanded anonymity on Thursday because they were not authorised to discuss the issue.

MODERN DAY VIOLENT RADICALS: ""They are baffling people. They talk about human rights, and yet ally with sexist, racist, violent, gay-murdering, human-rights-hating fascists. Their central belief seems only to be that America, and Israel, and the white man, must be wrong. All of their decisions are based on that false axiom. As a result, they are enemies of the free countries, friends of third-world tyrants, and enemies of the suffering people all over the world who are forced to live under tyrannies""

Just like patrick / lesego getting excitable yesterday with the prospect of all out war between Israel and Gaza. Shame, Fidel. You really need this, hey? Cant wait for something bad to happen so that you can be first at the accident scene?

      fidel.mgoqi - 2012-11-16 08:06

Not at all Larry...but someone has to stand up to the Israeli bullying in the region, a counter-balance so to speak!

Well then in that case Israel must blow their plants up also without any delay.

Don't you only need 5% enriched to produce electricity? Why do they needs 20% enriched - my logic tells me they do have some sort of weapons plan going.

  • canna.discussions - 2012-11-16 08:59

While the possibility for weapons is a valid fear, the possibilities for energy created by nuclear technology should also be considered. Instead play by our rules menatlity the rest of the world should work with them in an effort to assist in energy and prevent war tools being made.

      tommy.jones.754918 - 2012-11-16 09:01

See my comment above. They don't need more than 5% enriched uranium to produce energy.
