Iran warns against Israeli 'aggression'

Damascus -Israel will regret its latest "aggression against Syria", Iran's security chief Saeed Jalili told reporters during a visit to Damascus on Monday.

"Just like it regretted all its wars... the Zionist entity will regret its aggression against Syria," Jalili, head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said a day after Israel implicitly confirmed it staged an air strike near Damascus last week.

"The Syrian people and government are serious about this, and the Muslim world supports Syria," Jalili said.

"Syria is at the forefront of the Muslim world's confrontation with the Zionist entity," he added, in reference to Israel.

In Munich on Sunday, Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak implicitly confirmed that the Jewish state had staged an air strike on Syria, following reports of an air raid which Damascus said targeted a military complex near the capital.

Barak told the Munich Security Conference that the strike was "another proof that when we say something we mean it."

Wednesday's air strike targeted surface-to-air missiles and an adjacent military complex believed to house chemical agents, according to a US official.

Tehran has provided Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime with unequivocal support throughout the country's 22-month conflict, which the UN says has left more than 60 000 people dead.

Analysts have warned of the potential regional spill over of the conflict, which has divided the international community into two camps.

One Russia-led camp has backed Assad, the other, led by the United States, has supported the revolt.

The thing is, if Israel interpret this as a threat, Iran may just end up blood nose. The thing about Israel is that they do not have the luxury of entertaining threats, that's why they demolish all threats, ask Syria. Strangely enough, the Palestinians consider a ceasefire with the Israelis as a win in war, imagine loosing such a war! I do have sympathy for the Palestinians though, but choosing sides next to Syria is just pouring petrol on fire. So glad we do not live in that area.

Blah bla blah. If Iran and Syria fought as hard as they talk, they may have a small chance against Israel.

  • dave.kofang - 2013-02-04 19:14

Its about time Israel is attacked. Its impunity cannot continue unpunished. The world cannot be held to ransons by right wing state of israel.Call me names bcos thats wht u knw bt one day Israel will regret.

      Larry - 2013-02-04 22:33

They can only talk, but will do nothing. Cos' if they do, they will be soundly thrashed and humiliated once again, as happened several times in the recent past. So go and get a lemon Dave and suck on it and taste the sour defeat.

I wonder if Iran stands any kind of chance against Israel. Iran talks a lot but Israel have been practising their killing and war techniques on the Palestinians for years and years. Let's face it, they know how to kill and how to show no mercy. Israel looks to be the more formiddable foe!

      Larry - 2013-02-04 22:35

Good assessment jojo, except for one thing. Israel has the utmost mercy, or you would have seen the end to Israel's enemies long ago.

      raffick.khan.7 - 2013-02-04 23:55

many people still live in the past.when will they realize that iran has ammassed and developed more advanced weaponary since the 67=73 war years.

      Larry - 2013-02-05 06:02

So too has Israel. Israel's enemies are like cavemen in comparison to Israel's capabilities.

      Larry - 2013-02-05 08:55

...and Iran and Syria know this very well.
