Islamic State militants 'massacre' 80 Yazidis in Iraq

2014-08-16 07:35

Baghdad - Islamic State militants "massacred" some 80 members of Iraq's Yazidi minority in a village in the country's north, a Yazidi lawmaker and two Kurdish officials said on Friday.

"They arrived in vehicles and they started their killing this afternoon," senior Kurdish official Hoshiyar Zebari told Reuters. "We believe it's because of their creed: convert or be killed."

A Yazidi lawmaker and another senior Kurdish official also said the killings had taken place and that the women of the village were kidnapped.

  • James A. Holeson - 2014-08-16 07:53

And right on cue! Islamic extremists have started their genocide!

      James A. Holeson - 2014-08-16 08:21

Let's see if the Rooling Putty condems these barbaric and heinous acts of genocide by the muslims. Don't hold your breath...

      Tauriq Hercules - 2014-08-19 07:37

The Yazidis believe in God as creator of the world, which he has placed under the care of seven "holy beings" or angels, the "chief" (archangel) of whom is Melek Taus, the "Peacock Angel." The Peacock Angel, as world-ruler, causes both good and bad to befall individuals, and this ambivalent character is reflected in myths of his own temporary fall from God's favor, before his remorseful tears extinguished the fires of his hellish prison and he was reconciled with God. This belief builds on Sufi mystical reflections on the angel Iblis, who proudly refused to violate monotheism by worshipping Adam and Eve at God's express command.[18] Because of this connection to the Sufi Iblis tradition, some followers of other monotheistic religions of the region equate the Peacock Angel with their own unredeemed evil spirit Satan,[19][20][21][22] which has incited centuries of persecution of the Yazidis as "devil worshippers." Down with all devil worshipers!!!

  • Jacob Zumaasak - 2014-08-16 07:54

Will the Muslims March for this?

      Ashley Marks - 2014-08-16 08:04

I doubt it,two face snakes are probably celebrating in private so as not to attract attention

      Xenswim1 - 2014-08-16 12:09

Naah because they are afraid of being on the wrong side of Islam. Not even he Shiite side of Islam seems to be siding with the christian north.

      Tauriq Hercules - 2014-08-19 07:38

Not at all! Yazidis must die!

  • Paulson Meziri - 2014-08-16 08:10

Is Tutu & Malema going to lead a protest against this massacre ???????

      James A. Holeson - 2014-08-16 08:15

No, me thinks the Zuma and Malema brigade are closet Mussies. Typical hypocritical behaviour from pro-Arab supporters. The problem I have with Islamists is that they demand acceptance across the Western world, propping up mosques left, right and centre, but they have NO tolerance for everyone else...

      Aisha Laher - 2014-08-16 16:41

I had no idea that it was a completely Muslim march. I am pretty sure that there were non-Muslims present. In any case, maybe I'm wrong. I would, as I have only seen condemnation on the ISIS/ISIL movement from the various heads of the Muslim community, like to see where you have picked up that South African Muslims support these despicable acts...

  • Viman Singh - 2014-08-16 08:21

Arch Bishop Desmond Tutu is jumping up and down over palestine deaths. He aint jumping about this. I think Mr Tutu is only I interested in the publicity.

      Bnet Jonas - 2014-08-16 10:34

Tutu precided over falling church numbers, he will preach to emptier and emptier churches whilst the Muslim priests decided which churches to convert to mosques

      Aisha Laher - 2014-08-16 16:37

The Jamiat has already condemned it and so have various Muslim heads in the country... I've said it before that people have for centuries been using the false interpretation of religion to further their own selfish interests...

  • Leon E Young - 2014-08-16 08:26

And when wil the ANC condemn these militants like they did with Israel?

      James A. Holeson - 2014-08-16 08:32

The ANC are a bunch of attention-seeking phonies. They know that by speaking out against Israel and western interests, they score browning points with the Chinks and the other BRICS nations.

  • dretter - 2014-08-16 08:29

Is this also Israel's fault, or will Islamic fundamentalism get the blame for a change?

  • Lodewyk Fred - 2014-08-16 08:44

Peace be upon him....and apparently no other soul in this whole world.

  • Kirsty Prinsloo - 2014-08-16 08:50

What makes a muslim better than someone else? Why is it okay for them to murder people but get upset when people defend themselves against their terrorism. Why is it that non Muslim people have to follow their cultural beliefs and rules in their countries but get upset when the western and European countries expect them to do the same?

  • zayna - 2014-08-16 08:54

This is not Islam. These militants who claim to speak for Islam and have caused terror and trauma to people of other faith are behaving in a manner contrary to the tenets of our Islam. Islam and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) has taught us tolerance and respect. I as a Muslim do not not support isis.

      James A. Holeson - 2014-08-16 09:04

So organise a march then and show the world that you condemn these warmongers.

      David Bennett - 2014-08-16 18:15

Zayna maybe the perpetrators of this will say the Islam you are practicing is not the proper Islam? We know what they capable if doing to people who don't practice what they do.

      mahomed - 2014-08-16 22:25

@Martin - Want to know the difference between ISIS and IDF? When ISIS murder women and children they don't call it self defence!

  • Viman Singh - 2014-08-16 09:04

Zayna these people are muslim just like you. Only when a person is a terrorist then he is not muslim. Its time you and others who follow islam dig your head out from the ground and realise that there is something going wrong within islam. Something needs to be done otherwise we would not have a planet soon. I fear islamic countries will be bombing the world and eventually bomb themselves. Yes the book teaches good too, but the people read it wrong....but they muslim.

  • Azana Booi - 2014-08-16 09:12

  • Zulfa Henry Jonathan - 2014-08-16 09:17

Please enlighten me as to the demands the memorandum for a march against ISIS would contain: Would it demand to have the ISIS ambassador expelled? Or that our government stop trade with ISIS? Or that the world should condemn their actions? How bout the Israeli lobby staging a protest for the right of ISIS defend themselves against by killing defenseless women and children. I would like to march for the Snowden reports to be published in mainstream media so that the world could see who is responsible for the aggression in the middle east. But then again we have been made blind, deaf and dumb.

  • joannekc1 - 2014-08-16 09:18

ISIS=HAMAS=BOKO=MORO=ALQUEDA=ISLAM...Time to stop the 1400 year Islamic Jihad for Sharia by Muslims against non-Muslims. Boycott products and businesses with Halaal stamps and Boycott the fascists Nazi-like BDS and any other entity that codifies their hatred of Jews and Christians and other non-Muslims in a book called a Koran. Phelamanga - 2014-08-16 20:26

Over 80%of Jordanians are also Palestinian simply because the whole area fell under the Palestinian mandate. So must we also say that they are occupying Jordan. Muslims are occupying Dearborn, Michigan, the only almost fully Muslim city in the US. Must they get out because they are occupying a town that used to be Christian? Birmingham in the UK has a large Muslim population occupying land that Christians lived on. Must they get out? Islam is the main religion of Turkey and Egypt, which were Christian before the onslaught of Islam. Must they be given to Christians to rule? What is good for one must be good for the other. Let the Jews have Israel, and let them trade freely with their Arab neighbours so that the whole region can profit from their expertise and ingenuity. It's amazing how much mind power is list in Arab countries because school children are taught the wrong things and grow up being continual victims of their own victinhood.

  • Nazeera Valli - 2014-08-16 09:46

Isis has nothing to do with Islam .. Their behaviour is completely contradictory to what Islam teaches us. We know nothing about this group , we definitely do not support them or their actions . Their agenda is very suspicious. It's sad that they fight in the name of Islam . There's word that they were trained by the CIA. In the islamic rules of war , no child or women should be harmed .They defy this simple principle . So as a Muslim I will tell you , that no Muslim sane of mind supports this group , because , as sacred as the life of an innocent person in gaza is , so too is the life of a yazeedi .. The life of every human is precious .

      Nazeera Valli - 2014-08-16 10:44

Stoffel , your comment is disrespectful . If that's the way you speak to a woman , then I am disgusted ! I will not respond to your ignorance or your derogatory comments ..

      Teresa Correia - 2014-08-16 16:25

Whenever there are atrocities committed by Muslim fundamentalist/terrorists, there is always a conspiracy theory saying that they were perpetrated/thought of/headed/funded by the CIA/Americans/Jews/Israel/the West. Nothing is ever said about the funding/acquisition of weaponry to the tune of billions of dollars from countries such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, Turkey (the Turks have sent money and weapons to the Free Syrian Army, and these have been taken over by ISIS, but nobody talks about this).

      Phelamanga - 2014-08-16 19:59

Muslim school children in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain are taught that Islam must regain Portugal, Spain and the Southern part of France because they are told that the Christians wrongfully forced the Muslims out and that it is their land. They are Aldo told that there was a Muslim on Christopher Columbus's ship who prayed before the Christians did, therefore America belongs to Islam. They are taught that Egypt won the 1967 Arab-Israeli War, despite the fact that Egypt lost the entire Sinai peninsula to the Israelis. They are told that the Shia have a festival where brothers, sisters fathers and mothers must have sex with each other. These are the seeds for Islamist terrorist groups being sown in the minds of school children. The same kind of mentality can be seen in South Africa where local Muslims refuse to accept that the aggressor is more often than not the various, corrupt Palestinian groups who, in the name of Islam, create situations where they expose their own people to death and destruction, and then say it is an attack on Islam! Added to that, there are cries about corruption in SA from the same people yet they seem to sanctify the corrupt and murderous groups killing other Muslims and non-Muslims. They switch roles and start playing the victim. They should rather stand up and let the world know that they condemn what is going on by saying:Not in my name. Not in Allah's name! ISIS and Hamas have become the face of Islam because Muslims have allowed it.

      Tauriq Hercules - 2014-08-19 07:41

When cornered, all that followers of Islam can say is, "We are innocent. It's the Americans!" Or, "It's the CIA!" Then there is the mother of all scapegoats: Israel! One thing's for sure: with Muslims ethnic cleansing Muslims and non-Muslims alike, it sure gives a whole new meaning to the word Islam (Peace)!

We have to make a distinction between religion and fundamental groups within a religion. Hence u have jews and zionist

Much as the presidency of jacob zuma shouldnt be used to bash the majority of south africans. Take each man or woman on his or her merits. Take each leader on the basis of their actions. All are guilty. None are innocent. Personally I think religion is a curse and a blessing. The duality of life. Grey not black and white.
