Israel agrees truce, won't lift blockade - report

2012-11-21 19:15

Jerusalem - Israel has agreed to a truce in the Gaza Strip, but will not lift its blockade of the Palestinian territory, Israeli sources said on Wednesday, declining to give further details of any deal.

Shortly before, a Palestinian official with knowledge of Egyptian mediation between the two sides told Reuters that there was a ceasefire agreement to end eight days of fighting in Gaza that has killed more than 140 Palestinians and five Israelis.

Israel's Channel Two television said a ceasefire would be announced in Cairo later on Wednesday by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

So it seems as if sanity will prevail. Now, Israel has an Army and thus can be controlled. Lets hope that some fool does not shoot another rocket. And before the pro-P howl chorus begins. Does Hamas have the same command structure and control? Guess time will tell......

This is truly pathetic. Why the hell did 110 people need to die? Are you people gonna wait another year and do the same thing over and over again? I thought the Jews were clever? after all didn't Einstein once say that only idiots try the same thing over and over again expecting a different result? This will never end until the one wipes the other out.

What would you do if a group of people swore to destroy you and followed up with daily action towards this goal?

  • johan.jacobs.5680 - 2012-11-21 20:09

    Truce? with which faction.

The story is much deeper then any of you people think , without doing full research i don't think anyone should comment on the Zionists attacking Palestine

Israel was created in 1948 from 52% of the land formerly occupied by the Jewish and Palestinian people, and Palestine 43%. Most of the Israeli territory was the Negev Desert. Jerusalem fell into neither territory. Palestinians with their unelected, self-serving neighbors declared war on Israel the very next day. In the 1960's they even invaded Israel twice. Full military invasions. The result: Israel survived and pushed them back, gaining territory in the process. This is the origin of what you wrongly call "stealing land". There have been almost daily attacks by Palestinians, incited by their self-serving unelected backers. Palestinians even teach their children at Kindergarten to attack Israel, rather than be peaceful. Children. Kindergarten. From day one, and even today it's wage war on Israel. Israel defends herself. Yes sometimes going too far, which is unacceptable, but self-defense nonetheless. All that needs to happen is for Palestinians to choose peace side by side with Israel. This is more likely going forward now because the unelected dictators are being removed from power by their people, one by one. They will no longer use the Palestinians for their own internal political ploys.

The Jewish settlers are on the wrong side of history. There's no happy ending to this tragedy. I'll spell it out - THERE'S NO WAY THE ARABS WILL ACCEPT AN EASTERN EUROPEAN SETTLER RULED ENCLAVE IN THE HEART OF THE ARAB LANDS - PERIOD! Just like there's no way the Africans will accept an European ruled enclave in Africa. Sooner or later the Jewish settlers will have to accept this reality! Hopefully sooner rather than later - so that not too many more women and children must die on both sides??

      larry.lachman.54 - 2012-11-21 20:50

...and the Jews of Israel are not going anywhere.

      paul.vieira.7792 - 2012-11-21 21:47

Jews don't want Arab land, only what was Isaac and Jacobs! So Arabs leave them and get out of the land of the Jews once and for all!

      bas.bas.522 - 2012-11-21 22:17

Yes and Jacob and Isaac had valid Title deed underwritten by god -if my memory serves me rigth the only thing Moses was given was the Ten commandments.

The poor Jews - with the fourth most powerful army in the world and an estimated 200 nukes can't suppress a bunch of rag tags with home made inaccurate rockets.Shame

      paul.vieira.7792 - 2012-11-21 21:50

Maybe it's because murder is not really their thing? Darn the Jews must be the only nation in the world that feeds and takes care of it's enemies.

      bas.bas.522 - 2012-11-21 22:20

Yes it is - heard of the Deir Yasin Massacre - and recently Shabra and Shatilla and of course Gaza 2009 - and 2012 - 45 children killed. But this time the lacked the balls for a ground invasion.

      bas.bas.522 - 2012-11-21 22:23

and of couse don't forget Jesus (mpbuh)

      fred.fraser.12 - 2012-11-21 22:59

      Why would you want that?

      angela.nair.3 - 2012-11-22 11:23

You are an Arab? If Israel wanted to they would smite Palestine and Hamas to kingdom come! Do you really want to say this now that they have brokered peace - or dont you understand the word "peace" And who suffered the most when Israel send in their missiles? ? Well pray that the next time Hamas sends in missiles that your wish comes true - that the powerful Israelis blow them up and "supress" them!

"US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton shakes hands with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas during a meeting in the West Bank city of Ramallah. (Alaa Badarneh, AP)" So what have the US got to do with this whole issue "ARMS" WEAPONS? Or am I forgetting something else?

      bas.bas.522 - 2012-11-21 22:46

Yes - Paid for F16's ,bombs iron dome ...

      fred.fraser.12 - 2012-11-21 23:01

Essentially, the US wants peace, democracy and human rights in the Middle East.

  • stephen.j.dickson.3 - 2012-11-22 08:08

We all want to live in peace and just get on with our lives but there are always troublemakers who don't want peace but war.The only way to peace is to eradicate the troublemakers with extreme predjudice if they won't conform to peaceful ways i.e. Hamas and all those who support and think like them. Viva Israel Viva. Give all your enemies and their forebears what they deserve. Hit them hard...........bottom line.

  • angela.nair.3 - 2012-11-22 11:17

Good news - But I agree that Israel should not lift the blockade - dont trust these terrorists! They will strap bombs on their women and children and sent them into Israel - they not to be trusted! Israel must fight for their country - Arabs have swore to eradicate the Israelis - there will never be peace in the Middle East - not until Palestine accepts Israel a a nation and live side by side in peace - there is so much they can teach each other.....
