Israel arrests senior Hamas MP

2012-10-27 22:41

Ramallah - Israeli security forces on Saturday arrested senior Hamas MP Mahmud al-Ramahi at a military roadblock in the West Bank, said an army spokesperson.

"He was arrested on suspicion of illegal activity," at Hawara checkpoint, south of Nablus, and taken for questioning, she said.

Palestinians in his home town of Ramallah said he was detained and his car impounded as he attempted to drive through the checkpoint.

Ramahi, formerly secretary general of the Palestinian Legislative Council, the Palestinian parliament, has been repeatedly held by Israel. In November 2010 he was arrested for what the army described as "being involved in recent Hamas activities".

In 2006, he was arrested in a roundup of dozens of Hamas lawmakers, ministers and other officials after Gaza militants seized Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, and was held for seven months.

I suppose these days suspicion is a good enough excuse to arrest and jail anyone for 10 years. Nothing especially newsworthy or unusual here

He's lucky-If the guy was under suspicion in Burma they would've killed him on the spot!

sadly, Israel is a true democracy, and although I fully support the west and democracy, I feel that democracy is its own worse enemy with the freedoms and rights that it gives to the worst of mankind. I wish Israel had the death penalty for these death-loving-children killers knows as Hamas.

Jojo, I thout you wrote Bruma and not Burma... Just this week our police shot and killed a youngster for going through red. It took an ambulance three hours to arrive. The brutality of our police makes our government hypocrites when criticizing Israeli self defense.

Apartheid israel arrests whoever it wants to -humanitarians ,freedom fighters..and the world is silent

Yes they can and will continue to do so for their own protection. When was the last time you heard of a Palestinian bomber on an Israeli bus? They need draconian laws for protection against Palestinian extremists. Palestinians are like children what needs a parent to think for them. Their judgement is so clouded by religion that they can seem to function responsible as a people.

And the world is silent about apartheid Gaza where Christians are treated as second rate citizens and where Jews are not allowed to live. Compare this to Israel where 20% of the population is Arab and vote in the democracy, furthermore Israel is the only country in the middle east where Christian numbers are on the increase... So carful who & what you call apartheid before you had a good, long, hard look in the mirror; there is no place in the world where racism and discrimination is as institutionalized as in the Muslim world against Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindu, women, gays and other smaller minorities. I have been there (middle east) and am talking out of sad experiences of intolerance and discrimination. So as far as I am concerned there are roads in Saudi that read "Muslims only" and the world is silent! Hypocrite!

Israel is ranked third among nations perceived as having a negative influence on the world, the BBC's annual poll shows, indicating further decline in the Jewish state's global image. Apart from that, Henry Kissinger and sixteen American intelligence agencies agree that in the near future, Israel will no longer exist. The New York Post quotes Kissinger "word for word": In 10 years, there will be no more Israel. Kissinger's statement is flat and unqualified. He is not saying that Israel is in danger, but could be saved if we just gave it additional trillions of dollars and smashed enough of its enemies with our military. He is not saying that if we elect Netanyahu's old friend Mitt Romney, Israel could somehow be salvaged. He is not saying that if we bomb Iran, Israel might survive. He is not offering a way out. He is simply stating a fact: In 2022, Israel will no longer exist. The US Intelligence Community agrees, though perhaps not on the precise 2022 expiration date. Sixteen US intelligence agencies with a combined budget over USD70 billion have issued an 82-page analysis titled "Preparing for a Post-Israel Middle East." May this be true!

You are dead right sir and they have only their own misguided policies to blame for it..they have been warned but refuse to listen to reason..such is the way of history has happened before and will happen again..this is the way of the US and it's proxy Israel!!

@potah,you're 100% right, every single political and socio-economic analyst believes that, think about it,within the next two years there will be new middle east-reshaping the middle east means the dawnfall of israeli's policy:DDIVIVE and RULE. Iran and hisbollah will be equiped with nuclear weopons and missiles, further more china will rise as major economic and power house, while USA will sink into economic and natural disasters. So wake up guys.
