Israel intensifies attacks

2012-11-20 21:23

Gaza City - Israel is intensifying its attacks on the Gaza Strip in what may be a last burst of fire ahead of a ceasefire ending its week long offensive in the Palestinian territory.

Heavy bursts of fire from tanks in southern Israel and gunboats off Gaza's coast could be heard late on Tuesday. The target isn't immediately known, and no casualties were reported.

The Israeli military had no comment.

The fire took place amid growing signals that a ceasefire is close.

A top Hamas official says a deal could be wrapped up soon, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel would be a "willing partner" in a diplomatic solution.

Israel launched its offensive to halt months of rocket fire.

More than 130 Palestinians, including dozens of civilians, and four Israelis have been killed in the fighting.

Sometimes the only way to defend yourself and your loved ones is if you meet force with a greater force. And then there is Hamas.........

      lownabester - 2012-11-20 22:12

Israel must and has the right to defend themself.

      Bluecrest - 2012-11-20 22:24

      @lownabester 100% correct!!!

      kaapse.skollie.7 - 2012-11-20 22:49

A "willing partner for peace" "intensifies attacks". Come now. That's not self-defence. It's just fun and games for Netanyahu now.

      ronald.utenhage - 2012-11-21 09:33

The entire world sits and watch the blatant THEFT and OPPRESSION of a PEOPLE..Between the time of partition and the declaration of Israel on 78% of historic Palestine in 1948, the newly formed Jewish state had depopulated (through massacres, expulsion orders, and fear tactics) over 400 villages and made refugees of at least 726,000 Palestinians (see U.N.).As Moshe Dayan put it, “Jewish villages were built in the place of Arab villages. You do not even know the names of these Arab villages, and I do not blame you because geography books no longer exist, not only do the books not exist, the Arab villages are not there either.”

  • kaapse.skollie.7 - 2012-11-20 22:21

Way to work for peace, Netanyahu. Get your kicks while you still can. Just remember, every dead Palestinian spawns 10 more who will devote their lives to vengeance.

      Desilusionada - 2012-11-20 22:31

@kaapse.skollie.7: "spawns 10 more who will devote their lives to vengeance" If life is so cheap by your logic, why then worry about innocent women and children being killed? And the women and children killed by suicide bombers all over the world, are they suddenly now not innocent any more? Does that justify them being killed? Easy to incite people as long as you are not involved neh?...

      Bluecrest - 2012-11-20 22:35

They (the Palestinian's)will NEVER win the (or any) war against Israel!!! What part of the Bible don't you people understand??? Sheesh!!!

      kaapse.skollie.7 - 2012-11-20 22:44

Totally missed your point, @Disillusionada. Were you agreeing or disagreing? I'll give you a thumbs up for your comment anyway.

      Desilusionada - 2012-11-20 22:58

@Bluecrest Sheesh!!! Here you suddenly show a pro-Israeli attitude. Why now when your previous post was different?...

      fred.fraser.12 - 2012-11-20 23:03

I hope they have higher aspirations than the one's you're espousing here. They've only been doing this for sixty years.

sadly the only time the world will condemn the death of innocent children is if they happen to be American! My heart bleeds for the families who have to go to bed without their loved ones tonight...& the reality is that most of them are not terrorists

      Bluecrest - 2012-11-20 22:36

Well, depending on your view - don't launch rockets! :) Simple :)

      Desilusionada - 2012-11-20 22:37

Leon, You are so right when you say: "sadly the only time the world will condemn the death of innocent children is if they happen to be American!" I am still waiting for the condemnation by irregular contributors to these forums, of the war in Syria and the women and children killed there. And there is this absolute deafening silence when a bomb in Iraq kills women and children. As if the women and children in Gaza are sort of on a higher level. Or is it because it is not the so called hated Zionists, but other Muslims who are doing the killing there?........

      Hakuna - 2012-11-20 22:56

@desilusineada You are forgetting the story here is about Israel/Palestine, not Iraq or Syria. You also seem to have an issue with muslims as a whole and not just palestine itself. Muslims do condemn the Syrian Govt and Sadam Husain for what he has done.... they are topics on its own. Lets reverse the scenario. Israel- Muslim state, Palestine- Jewish state. In this case I'm sure you would regard Israel as terrorist for what has happened and is happening now. Also don't forget there are also christians suffering in Gaza. I mean common open your eyes. Even foreign Jewish groups are against Israel for what is happening. http://jfjfp.com/ I remember meeting a few jewish rabies who lead a protest in SA a while ago against the Israeli govt. Face the facts. People who support Israel are the ones who support apartheid, and apartheid there is much worse than we had in SA.

      Desilusionada - 2012-11-20 22:59

@Bluecrest You seem to change your view all the time?....

      Desilusionada - 2012-11-20 23:34

Hakuna I was responding to leon.ramraj. I am not aware of American children being killed in Gaza. He, (Leon) decided to mention American vs other children across the world. The world includes present Iraq and Syria. I have no issue with Muslims, except those that kill themselves and civilians of any sort. Not all Muslims condemn the Syrian government and I was not referring to Hussein either. I have an issue with Palestinians in Gaza who keeps on shooting rockets into Israel. When Israel gets tired of this, I have a lot of empathy with those that are on the receiving end. I also have empathy for a sovereign state who has to endure rockets fired into their territory. I have no time for those who made a decision on behalf of the Christians, women, children, cats and dogs and any and every life endangered and lost, by shooting rockets at Israel. Gaza was unilaterally given to the Palestinians in 2005. This caused great upheaval for the Israelis who were forcibly removed. It was also supposed to stop rockets, suicide bombers et al. A modicum of peace was upheld between Fatah and Israel. Since 2007 when Hamas forcibly took over from Fatah, it has gone to the dogs. The Fatah takeover costed 118 lives and 500 wounded. Palestinians killing Palestinians. Till today Hamas does not understand they must not shoot rockets at Israel. There is no history that Hamas will comply to a truce....

      Hakuna - 2012-11-21 07:54

Well think of the Palestinians... Lets take an example of our country. South Africa apartheid begins again. Almost all blacks are pushed into KZN. KZN borders are walled upland fully controlled by the apartheid govt. Even KZN seas are controlled by the apartheid govt. No one can just enter or leave. Everything coming in and out is restricted by the Apartheid govt, even food. What do you expect black population to do? Sit back and smile? Its obvious people will fight for there freedom because inside there is poverty no proper schools hospitals etc. Do you like having your land taken away by an influx of foreigners who claim god has given them this land, pushes you in a corner and holds you to gunpoint? You keep talking of 2005 agreement. Yes Gaza was so called handed over to Palestine, but do you know the main terms which caused this to fail? Part of the agreement was that Israel continue to control Gaza's coastline and airspace and reserve the right for military action when necessary. Israel will continue to collect all custom duties of imports into Gaza. Do you call this handover freedom when the people of palestine still have to live at the hands of israeli army? I dont blame the Palestinians one bit and i guarantee you would do the same in that position. Israel uses its might know America is behind them at every opertunity. Look at the death toll in recent clash. I respect Palestine for standing up to a giant in the name of freedom.

  • alan.george.5815 - 2012-11-20 22:34

Is only the blood Israelis more precious than that of the Palestinians? This is the democracy that Israel boasts about. What a joke.

      jason.sole.92 - 2012-11-21 06:16

perhaps you should tell your terrorist buddies to stop shooting rockets and then you wouldnt need to evaluate whose blood has more value.

      doberman.love.1 - 2012-11-21 07:16

I think you should ask that of Hamas themselves... they seem to think Israeli blood is worth 1400 Palestinians... last year they exchanged ONE Israeli soldier for 1400 Palestinians... when your enemies tells you that your are worth 1400 times more then them it shows you something... and proves that Israel loves life as much as Hamas love death.

Israel was created in 1948 from 52% of the land formerly occupied by the Jewish and Palestinian people, and Palestine 43%. Most of the Israeli territory was the Negev Desert. Jerusalem fell into neither territory. Palestinians with their unelected, self-serving neighbors declared war on Israel the very next day. In the 1960's they even invaded Israel twice. Full military invasions. The result: Israel survived and pushed them back, gaining territory in the process. This is the origin of what you wrongly call "stealing land". There have been almost daily attacks by Palestinians, incited by their self-serving unelected backers. Palestinians even teach their children at Kindergarten to attack Israel, rather than be peaceful. Children. Kindergarten. From day one, and even today it's wage war on Israel. Israel defends herself. Yes sometimes going too far, which is unacceptable, but self-defense nonetheless. All that needs to happen is for Palestinians to choose peace side by side with Israel. This is more likely going forward now because the unelected dictators are being removed from power by their people, one by one. They will no longer use the Palestinians for their own internal political ploys.

      kaapse.skollie.7 - 2012-11-20 23:13

Fred, the Palestinians want their land and homes back. Simple as that.

      fred.fraser.12 - 2012-11-20 23:19

      kaapse.skollie.7 - 2012-11-20 23:41

You've been copy-pasting the same one-sided "history" all day, Fred. We get your side. Doesn't change the fact that the Palestinians want their land and homes back. That's why they're fighting. And that's why they won't stop. Now do you get it?

  • Khadija Osman - 2012-11-20 22:39

      fred.fraser.12 - 2012-11-20 23:05

Two groups of people resented and opposed the creation of an Israeli homeland for the Jewish people after the horrors of World War II, notwithstanding that the amount of land was a tiny, minuscule slither relative to their vast lands, and Jewish people had inhabited that land for millennia. Guess which groups that was, and is. Racist Muslims and White Supremacists.

  • ric.comment - 2012-11-20 23:10

Perhaps if Hamas stopped firing indiscriminate rockets at Israel, Israel would no longer have an excuse to launch strikes against Gaza. If Hamas could spend 5 minutes acting more like a political force than a terrorist one, their voice would resonate much louder in the world community and many current Israel supporters may become more amenable to the Palestinian cause.

      fred.fraser.12 - 2012-11-20 23:20

It's not an excuse. It's a matter of security and survival. The Palestinians with their dictatorial unelected backers do not recognize even the right of Israel to exist and openly declare their intention to destroy her.

  • Raymon - 2012-11-20 23:59

Everyone seem to forget that Israel's been under constant attack/threat for years now. We all knew this day would come. just how long must Israel endure the rockets fired from Gaza, and listen to the Islamic imams preach death and distruction for her? Enoug is enough... The time for sitting back and turning the other cheek has passed. Now, Israel's fighting back. Be sure the liberals and Muslims are going to use this opportunity to make Israel the bad guy, but frankly, who cares! Viva Israel!

      kaapse.skollie.7 - 2012-11-21 00:34

Next you'll say that all attacks on Israel are completely unprovoked. After all, what right do the Palestinians have to fight for the lands they've been dispossessed of since 1948? Enough is enough, indeed.

      jason.sole.92 - 2012-11-21 06:18
