Israel orders settlers out of Hebron house

2012-04-02 16:10

Hebron - The Israeli military has ordered Jewish settlers to evacuate a building they occupied last week in the heart of the most volatile city in the West Bank.

Settlers say about 10 families entered the building in the city of Hebron after legally purchasing it from a Palestinian land owner.

The military says this claim is not true. An army spokesperson said on Monday the settlers must evacuate to keep the public order and because they did not obtain army authorisation to occupy the house.

The military set a deadline of Tuesday afternoon for the 70 or so people inside to get out.

About 500 Jewish settlers live in heavily guarded enclaves among 180 000 Palestinians in Hebron, home to a key shrine holy to both Muslims and Jews.

Predictable. Not a word from the Mohammeds, Fidel's, Patricks, Yaseens and a few uninformed others.

They did purchase the house legally... News24 need to get their facts straight. And another thing when someone buys an house it does not make them a "settler".

      Larry - 2012-04-02 20:51

Why, because no Jews are allowed in Palestine. Now Patrick, do you remember those good old days when no blacks were allowed to buy homes and live in white suburbs. Apartheid in motion. No Jews allowed on Palestinian park benches.

      Larry - 2012-04-02 21:00

I have to add that the irony is resplendent, especially with you and your apartheid blather.

      Larry - 2012-04-03 06:30

Utter rubbish Patrick. The only people who are being told where to live in this instance, are the 70 Jewish people who paid money to a Palastinian building owner for the purchase of same building as a dwelling. It is the Palestinians who enforce segregation because they will not accept Jewish people in their neighborhoods, and have even denied them a place in a future Palestinian State. Juden verboten. If any apartheid is being practiced, it is by the Palestinians in the West Bank, because in Israel, Jew, Muslim and Christian live and worship side by side.

      Larry - 2012-04-03 20:49

Patrick, the West Bank is occupied by the IDF from a military perspective and as an unresolved stand-off from the 1967 war. The region was occupied fully and governed by Jordan pre-1967, who then deserted the West Bank and its population in the face of Israeli defensive counter-attack. The status quo remains to this day, and if the newly invented Palestinian people were interested in peace, then they would accept the existence of Jewish people in a Jewish state of Israel and they would accept Jewish people in a future Palestinian state as well. Until this peace is wanted and applied by the Palestinian people, there will be punishment meted out by Israel to force a peaceful resolution. This is the end game of all wars where the victor sets the terms of peace. You harp on incessantly about Israel apartheid. Fine, I give in to your chirping bird brain. Israel is apart from Palestinian ruled areas. Far apart. Lets call it apartheid. They want nothing to do with these useless miserable Arabs, except to force them to be peaceful. Can the bird-brain comprehend?

      Fred - 2012-04-04 15:33

There is no occupation. The Israelites have been in the area as long as the other tribes. This is recorded fact.

      Larry - 2012-04-04 22:30

Who is the UN patrick? Which country is the UN and where is it on the map?

      Larry - 2012-04-05 18:42

You can't teach me anything Patrick. I am sufficiently well read on international politics as pertains to the UN. As for you, you cannot even recognise blatant sarcasm, let alone the subtle variety. That's not an insult, just a casual observation. You are way out of your league, and it shows with every banal posting on these threads.

      Fred - 2012-04-05 20:48

Patrick, that's absurd. The UN is an association of ALL the countries on Earth. It cannot colonize anyone.

      Fred - 2012-04-08 04:43

truly, you're being stupid Patrick. Plain dumb.

@Patrick Edwards. The notion that Israel is a "colony" is totally unfounded in historical or present day reality. Jews immiggrating or making aliyah to israel has been going on since the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 ce. The Kabbalah was formalised in written form in the town of Safed in Northern Israel in the 13th century. In the 17th century the Vilna Gaon (one of the greatest rabbis of his time) left Lithuania for Israel. Israel is at the core of the Jewish religion and it is considered a good deed to live in Israel.
