The Organisation for Security and Cooperation (OSCE) in Europe said on Friday it was negotiating safe passage to the Malaysia Airline crash site with rebels controlling eastern Ukraine.

The security body is in talks with the rebels to create "a humanitarian corridor allowing access to this region to do the necessary work as well as the investigations," OSCE chief Didier Burkhalter said on Swiss television, adding that it was also seeking access to the plane's black box flight recorder "currently in the hands of the separatists".

Two video conferences between OSCE, Ukrainian and Russian representatives were held overnight and a third will take place on Friday, he said. Thirty OSCE monitors including the Swiss deputy of the group's Ukraine mission are en route to the site, Burkhalter added.

First came the loud explosion that made buildings rattle: Then it started raining bodies.

One of the corpses fell through the rickety roof of Irina Tipunova's house in this sleepy village, just after Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 exploded high over eastern Ukraine, where pro-Russian separatists are fighting government forces.

"There was a howling noise and everything started to rattle. Then objects started falling out of the sky," the 65-year-old pensioner said in front of her grey-brick home. "And then I heard a roar and she landed in the kitchen, the roof was broken," she said, showing the gaping hole made by the body when it came through the ceiling of the kitchen in an extension to the house.

Former Cuban President Fidel Castro blamed the "warmonger" government of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko for shooting down a Malaysian airliner with 298 people on board over eastern Ukraine.

World leaders are demanding an international investigation into Thursday's tragedy, which could mark a pivotal moment in the worst crisis between Russia and the West since the Cold War.

While US officials suspect it was downed by a sophisticated surface-to-air missile fired by Moscow-backed Ukrainian separatists, Castro blamed the other side in the Ukrainian conflict.

"Cuba ... cannot go without expressing its repudiation over the action of such an anti-Russian, anti-Ukrainian and pro-imperialist government," the retired revolutionary wrote in a 270-word article published in official Cuban media on Friday. - Reuters
