Leaks undermine pope's Vatican clean-up

Vatican City - A top Cardinal condemned on Monday the leaking of confidential Vatican documents, which he said were undoing the pope's efforts to clean up the its image after a spate of sex abuse scandals.

"Those who do these things provoke confusion among the Catholic faithful. They damage the Church's image," said Cardinal Walter Kasper, head of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity.

"And this when there is a pope working to renew the Church," in the wake of a torrent of sex-abuse cases against Catholic priests around in world. "When he learnt about the abuse, he wanted to clean it up," he said.

Kasper's comments followed the publication on Friday by the left-leaning Il Fatto Quotidiano of a confidential document dated December 30 warning the Vatican of an unspecified plot to assassinate Pope Benedict XVI.

Kasper dismissed the reports as "ridiculous" but warned that the Church's image was at risk from a series of rumours, leaks and corruption allegations in what experts believe is a bitter power struggle in the Vatican.

The Holy See's press office has been forced into overdrive against several recent Italian media reports centring mainly around the activities of the Vatican bank and Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone.

The fact that apparently genuine Vatican documents have been leaked points to growing tensions against Bertone's management style within the Roman Curia.

"Perhaps they hope to damage the Secretary of State, and hit other people as well... but this is not the way to behave. There is a bad style" at work within the corridors of power at the Vatican, Kasper said.

Should such faithful people ever have any secrets?

"Those who do these things provoke confusion among the Catholic faithful. They damage the Church's image," said Cardinal Walter Kasper So the world's oldest all-male celibate feudal oligarchy and biggest child-rape support group still wants to cover up its evil deeds. "When he learnt about the abuse, he wanted to clean it up," he said. Liar. Papa Ratzi has known out his groping, raping clergy for decades, did nothing and actively participated in the cover-up. I was tempted to laugh but really want to vomit? It's a cruel reminder of what the world was when these guys had absolute power. Of what it would become if they ever happen to get absolute power again.

Secrecy breeds distrust, suspicion, and conflict; they are not ways of winning friends and influencing people. The very word “secrecy” is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths, and to secret proceedings.– John F. Kennedy

Geez! And Kennedy was a Catholic. Well, a nominal one probably.

The "church" as a whole has nothing to do with any god, and is in its simplest form nothing more than a wealth accruing control mechanism to keep the masses under control. Its Amazing how many times the US comes up, but the truth is that the US recognized the sovereignty of the Vatican without public or inter governmental discussion and has sealed the fate of mankind in being able to verify the truth of religion and the lies it manipulates, by placing the world largest archive of religious material and writings outside the grasp of man, being sealed in underground chambers below the Vatican, a sovereign state.

Did you re-read what you just typed? I had to, and even then I am battling to unravel your rant. Wealth accruing mechanism to control the masses? What is that? What masses is it controlling? People forget that being catholic is a voluntary choice. No one is forcing you to subscribe, indeed to be controlled. Sealed the fate of mankind? Dude less than a sixth of the world's population is catholic. What are you on? How did USA recognition pop into this. The Vatican is recognized worldwide as a sovereign state. Let's get back to the story. Effectively, this sounds like nothing more than Vatican version of wiki leaks. Big deal. Move on. Oh wait, move on is too quick- most badgers are still raving about the reformation. The irony being that the church is being called slow to stay with the times.
