Lift Gaza blockade: UK PM

London - British Prime Minister David Cameron says Israel should lift the blockade of the Gaza Strip and has called the deadly raid on a pro-Palestinian aid flotilla "completely unacceptable."

Cameron told lawmakers in the House of Commons that the blockade "just strengthens Hamas' grip on Gaza" and should be lifted.

He criticised the raid on the Gaza-bound ships, which left nine people dead, saying: "What has happened is completely unacceptable".

Authorities say 42 British nationals were among more than 600 activists detained by Israel after it intercepted the flotilla on Monday.

They are being deported from Israel on Wednesday.

Gaza has been under an Israeli and Egyptian blockade since Hamas militants seized power in a violent takeover of the seaside strip in 2007.
