Moscow - A German boy who tossed a message in a bottle off a ship in the Baltic Sea 24 years ago has received an answer.

A 13-year-old Russian, Daniil Korotkikh, says he found the bottle recently while walking on a beach in the Kaliningrad region with his parents.

Frank Uesbeck, who lives in the German town of Coesfeld, was five-years-old when he sent the message afloat in 1987. It included his return address, allowing the Russian teen to find him.

Uesbeck and Korotkikh said they were communicating over the internet.

The message in the bottle read (German translated): "My name is Frank, and I'm five years old. My dad and I are traveling on a ship to Denmark. If you find this letter, please write back to me, and I will write back to you."
