Grenoble - The Mont Blanc tunnel linking France and Italy was closed early on Tuesday after a nearby river burst its banks and caused a mudslide blocking the French access route, regional authorities said.

The Alpine tunnel reopened to car traffic shortly before midday, but remained closed to trucks until further notice.

Authorities were advising lorry drivers wanting to travel between France and Italy to use the Frejus tunnel further south.
