Neighbour shot over loud party

2012-12-02 14:01

Sete - A shooting instructor in southern France enraged at his neighbours for staging a noisy birthday party went on a rampage early on Saturday, killing two people and wounding two others, police said.

The 49-year-old man, an instructor at a shooting range, went to his downstairs neighbours in the town of Sete, asking them to turn down the music at the party they were hosting.

When they declined, he warned: "I am going to go home and I'll be back to kill you," according to local prosecutor Brice Robin.

The instructor made good on his promise at 02:00, bursting into the neighbours' apartment and opening fire on party goers, according to police.

When some of them fled the flat, he chased them, shooting one in the hallway of the building and the others in the street, police said.

One of the wounded managed to call the police before collapsing.

Couple managed to hide

The gunman wounded three men and a woman, said Robin.

Later on Saturday, he announced that two of those injured, a 42-year-old man and 36-year-old, had died of their wounds in hospital.

The younger of the two men was the person rented the apartment.

The woman was reported to be in a critical condition, fighting for her life.

A child who was sleeping in the apartment at the time escaped injury altogether as did a couple who managed to hide under a table during the rampage.

The gunman, described by neighbours as a loner, returned to his flat following the shooting, where he surrendered to police without resisting.

The man told police that he was on medication "because he hasn't been able to sleep" since his working hours changed 18 months ago, forcing him to get up at 04:00.

Police found six firearms during a search of his flat, including the one he had used, as well as 5 000 rounds of ammunition.

One police source said the gunman had already in the past argued about the noise levels with the person who rented the flat.

That's the disadvantage to stay in a flat,if someone does not listen to you you have to make them listen

People do crazy things when having to deal with neighbours who are inconsiderate: Loud music, barking dogs, etc can make one do things you would normally frown upon...

Some other people think they own the world. They are very inconsiderable to other people. Loud music can be very irritating sometimes. I was bombarded with house music at tech and I have developed hatred for no matter where I hear it I just feel uncomfotable. When my friends invites me to their parties as soon they start play music I leave.

Walter, it has absolutely nothing to do with anger management. Noise actually does incite violence. Especially this crap that our local population feel they are entitled to bully their neighbours with. This kind of noise has been used in wars. That is why we have noise pollution laws and by laws. It is actually illegal to torture your neighbours. If you like loud music, use headphones but why force everyone to listen to the same crap you like listening to. People who make a noise like this are nothing but bullies and bullies are nothing but losers which tells me that you are a loser!!!

It is just a matter of respect. If the party flat just adhered to some basic decency, like breaking up at 00:00. Or moving the party to a pub or club after 23:00 this could have been avoided. I dealt with people like that while studying. Their music made my window frames rattle...These days a decent hi-fi is also dirt cheap and all of them come with bass speakers.

Got to a club at 23:00 or end at 12am!! Yeah guess you've never been to Europe then! The parties only start at the time you want them to end!! Hardly anyone is in a club at that time! Besides phoning the police is a better option than shooting someone!
