Obama: Crackdown in Syria horrifying

Washington - President Barack Obama is stepping up his criticism of Syria's crackdown on protesters, charging that the Syrian president is "completely incapable and unwilling" to respond to what Obama calls the legitimate grievances of the Syrian people.

Dozens of people were reported killed on Sunday as Syrian security forces escalated their response to protests against President Bashar Assad. In the city of Hama, a barrage of shelling and gunfire left bodies scattered in the streets.

Obama issued a statement on Sunday saying he is "appalled" by the violence and brutality the Syrian government has aimed at its own people. He calls the reports from Hama "horrifying" and says they demonstrate the true character of the Syrian regime.

Obama says the US will continue to increase pressure on the Syrian regime.

Asad is trying what every violent dictator has tried throughout history and failed. It's shocking. Every human being should oppose what he and his cronies are trying to do. it's blatant. It's clear. It's obvious. There are no sub-scripts, super-scripts or conspiracies. This is all about crushing the free spirits of the Syrian people, and maintaining oppressive control by a minority over the majority of Syrians.

Funny, no NATO forces, no US military, no French forces? This Assad guy is making Gaddafi look like a kindergartener. Why is there no humanitarian aid for the Syrian people?

Unfortunately international alliances are not presently strong enough to deal with Asad and Gadhafi at the same time. It's sad. Hopefully Libya will be resolved soon and attention will be directed at Asad. The world thinks in linear ways, for the most part.

Where does South Africa stand when comes to Syria? Is it possible that it was wrong when the NP did the same to the ANC 30 years ago but it is indifferent when Assad does it to his people? I wish the ANC would be doing the same loud noises.

ANC only cares to comment when Israel is involved. The way I see it they indifferent to suffering
