Obama: US will apprehend Snowden legally

2013-06-24 21:31

Washington - President Barack Obama said on Monday the United States was using all appropriate legal channels to apprehend fugitive intelligence leaker Edward Snowden, who fled Hong Kong and landed in Moscow.

"What we know is that we are following all the appropriate legal channels and working with various other countries to make sure that the rule of law is observed," Obama told reporters at the White House.

The president then deferred to the US justice department, as American authorities seek to persuade Russia to expel Snowden, and not let him flee elsewhere, likely to asylum in Ecuador.

Earlier the White House warned that the decision to let Snowden leave Hong Kong has damaged efforts to rebuild trust in US-China relations, and said it expected Russia to hand him over.

Wake fool whistle blowers serve an important role in making the lives of your children safer. Really wake up or do you only appreciate whisleblowers who nail ANC, Russia or China. Get your head out the US are the ones to fear.

Legal means? Why start now USA? Snowden exposed your illegal means and now he is the fugitive? You should all be on trial, including your puppet Obama

You all so anti US , you don't want to know what Russia and China do in secret, never mind their not so secret abuse of basic human rights.

      Sheldon Matthys - 2013-06-25 08:27

That's where your wrong. the US are the so called bastion of freedom.secret courts, prosecuting whistle blowers, torturing, collateral murder, spying on journalists, members of congress asking for prosecution of journalists and the list goes on.

Derek, using comparative analysis with regard to human rights as well as breaking international law is just plain stupid. You expect us to forgive the USA for Gbay, for starting civil wars, for arming both sides, for eavesdropping on it's own citizens and for creating civil unrest around the globe because 'the Chinese are worse'. What a load of rubbish. I expect that next you will quoting Jack Nicholson from "A Few Good Men" and justifying gross violations of rights as a means to an end to protect people. However this is not the case. The only ones being protected are the international bankers, the private reserves and the global corporates who always win when there is unrest. The average citizen is stripped of their rights in the name of "Patriotism" (Patriot Act) or in other ways to protect them from 'secret organisations' such as Al Quaeda, an invention of the CIA and funded by them all the way through the 1980s. NO, this is not a case the end justifying the means, this is a case of the 1% taking total control and you accepting it because the others are worse. What a joke.
