Obama asks Iran to return US drone

2011-12-12 21:26

Washington - President Barack Obama on Monday said the US government had requested the return of a spy drone downed over Iran but declined to discuss if its loss could compromise US national security.

"We have asked for it back. We'll see how the Iranians respond," Obama said during a joint news conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki after the two met at the White House.

Obama acknowledged differences between Washington and Baghdad on how to deal with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government's crackdown on pro-democracy demonstrators but said Maliki was acting in Iraq's best interests.

Maliki raised concerns about the risk of sectarian violence in Syria spilling into neighboring Iraq and said he wanted the Syrian situation resolved peacefully.

Oh sure Barack, send your guys anytime that suits you. Your obedient sometime-past-oil-supplier and weapon receiver. Iran

  • Nick - 2011-12-12 22:21

Geez, thats awkward. "Sorry we're spying on ya but can we have it back now?"

  • chris.khanye - 2011-12-12 22:42

Finders, keepers - now the Iranians can study the technology that will be used to attack it in no distant future. Both Israel and US use the drones and this could never have come at a better time for Iran. No, dice!

Would not be a surprise if they "accidently" i mean on purposely dropped the spy drone there. What people don’t realize it’s an act of war to spy on other states. This seems like a prefect "method" to establish a reason for hostility toward Iran (which they need since American civilians are opposing war now) there is extremely high tensions between these 2 nations, if Iran does not give in to give the drone back, which i suspect they won’t then America would have a "viable" reason to attack Iran due to the "Threat they may pose" How do i know this? First you must understand how USA and communist countries work. 1st they create a problem, then they offer the solution. Secondly if you study America’s history they always supplied a reason, might that be a terrorist attack, news propaganda to convince people that they need to go in to war. Good example is Iraq, where no Nuclear weapons have ever been found, Pear Harbor which they had prior knowledge of the attacks weeks before it happened, Twin towers, or the Levan affair which was the reason America went into war, they now admit it was based on a false flag since the Levan affair never happened. Third reason, because Americas own government has the right to create such episodes to gain public support….and yes there is actual government documents proving this. This would then justify a war with Iran, where people send their children in to war as if they are sheep to be slaughtered…historical and paper traceable FACTS!

Nice generalization Henno. Sort of like saying all South Africans are racist bastards keeping the poor blacks in poverty so they can have all the wealth. Of course, that's not true and idiotic, as is your comment.

Israel, Neocons, Aipac, Joe Lieberman, Pearl, Wolfowitz. got us into Iraq. They are trying their best to get us into Iran.

I think you should read about Imperial Japan before making a statement about Pearl Harbor. The Japanese wanted to control all of Asia and they thought the US was in their way and this led to them attacking Pearl Harbor.

Yeah you watched that movie Zeitgeist. Load of crap loads of inaccuracies and half truths there

The US & Israel only has a problem with Iran's nuclear capabilities, they won't go to war but might drop a few bombs on them.

Looking for reasons to attck Iran.

    Was it stolen?

      Clifton - 2011-12-13 02:07

The aircraft was recovered in good shape, leading me to wonder if the Iranians might have figured out how to take over the remote control. I imagine the Chinese wouldn't mind working with them on such a project.

  • James - 2011-12-13 02:22

Israel "US must bomb Iran" US "Maybe we shall" Barry "Please please return our drone" Something does not sound right.

  • Tshivhombela Fhatuwani - 2011-12-13 02:44

I am just amazed by how Americans oversimplify this saga. Obama is not even apologising for intruding Iran's airspace. How are the Iranians going to return it? They are going to taste their medicine soon and what a Christmas gift for Iran and China.

      Juan - 2011-12-13 06:31

Well if the Yanks does attack I seriously doubt that Iran would be doing any celebrating. America has already got all the necessary infrastructure and their war machine in place just a stone throw away in Afghanistan. But there's no talk of any invasions, merely tightening of sanctions.
