Pakistan school attack over, all militants dead - police

2014-12-16 15:49

Peshawar - A bloody Taliban raid on an army-run school in northwest Pakistan has ended, police said on Tuesday, with all six attackers dead.

The assault on the school in the city of Peshawar killed at least 130 people, most of them students, according to officials.

"The combat operation is over, the security personnel are carrying out clearance operation and hopefully they will clear the building in a while," police official Abdullah Khan told AFP.

"Dead bodies of six terrorists have been found in the building."

Senior police official Shafqat Malik confirmed the combat phase of the response was over, while chief army spokesperson General Asim Bajwa said on Twitter that the operation was "closing up".

Bajwa said explosive devices planted in school buildings by the militants were slowing clearance efforts.

Special forces soldiers had rescued more than a dozen staff and students, Bajwa said.

And here we all thought Al-Qaeda was on the run. Thanks Obama!

      Tarquin Biscuitbarrel - 2014-12-16 16:17

      you mean osama right?

      dunkie56 - 2014-12-16 19:23

yes you are right the Taliban exported themselves to Pakistan after the US invasion of Afghanistan..now this evil is firmly rooted there and God help us if they ever get there hands on Pakistan's nukes.I personally believe that Pakistan is quite capable of dealing with this threat and this latest attack by the Taliban is merely as a result of the effectiveness of the Pakistani military to make their lives less than easy. They, the Taliban will always react with most ferocity when their backs are against the wall!

  • jrbussa.mbule - 2014-12-16 16:11

What retrograde way of thinking Is Obama the president of Pakistan ?

      Raymon McNelly - 2014-12-16 16:32

Jr Bussa Mbule, No, but it was Obama what said Al-Qaeda was on the run after Usama was 'supposedly' killed, was it not? He basically ran his 2012 presidential campaign on that lie. Wow, how short memories you have!

      Raymon McNelly - 2014-12-16 20:44

What? You want to tell me Obama did't say Al-Qaeda was on the run? it is a verifiable fact. I guess Im expecting too much from people with an avg. IQ of 77. Maybe 2012 was too long ago for you clowns.

Thanks Daniel. If I had to say hitler was a Christian or the crusades was a fantasy I would like to see the comments.

      zeenat.allie.16 - 2014-12-16 18:15

Annalise.... Forrest Gump... Go watch it.

      Raymon McNelly - 2014-12-16 20:49

Zeenat Allie, The crusades was a defensive move to stop the Islamic scurge seeping into Europe. As usual, Islam was the problem and somebody had to put an army together to stop that cancer.

  • ian.borradaile - 2014-12-16 16:25

Willfully killing children is the act of the lowest form of scum on the planet. Filthy disgusting pigs

      Derek Bredenkamp - 2014-12-16 17:22

agree'd but you got to ask what have the Pakistan military done to deserve this?

      zeenat.allie.16 - 2014-12-16 18:12

At Derek...the Taliban alqaeda don't need reasons... They are a bunch of self proclaimed keepers of Islam.... Not in my name will this be tolerated.

  • Johan van Rensburg - 2014-12-16 16:32

WOW !! How can one even think of justifying such an act of brutality !!!!!! Sick Sick Sick

  • Mashooda Dhorat - 2014-12-16 16:42

This is the most appalling and disgusting act of murder of innocent children. It doesn't matter that they are muslim or not and that the murderers are muslim or not. It is sad to see that the murderers were killed. It would have been more prudent to see them hang in the market square or be beheaded for this dastardly crime. It would also be nice to see the condemnation by other commentators be directed at the murderers and not my religion, Islam, because Islam doesn't promote this kind of crimes against civilians of any persuasion let alone children.

      Mashooda Dhorat - 2014-12-16 17:09

Yes they are muslim, so what? does it automatically mean that all muslims are guilty of this crime? I don't think so. There was a murder of 6 innocent family members today or yesterday in the US. Can I then say all you non-muslims are guilty of that crime. Should I take it that muslims innocently killed in other parts of the world, including children were killed by your kind and blame you and your religion for those murders and start a tit for tat blame game? Its time that we stop the collective blame for any crime and direct our anger at the perpetrators and not the religion or followers of the religion in general. This crime is committed by the Taliban, so direct your anger at them and I may even agree with you.

      Revelgen - 2014-12-16 17:14

      'May'? Mashooda?

      Mashooda Dhorat - 2014-12-16 17:14

so here comes the flood of people who know nothing about my religion and will comment on what they heard or saw on tv. I appealed to your better judgement but it is falling on deaf ears. So knock yourself out and enjoy your ignorance

      zeenat.allie.16 - 2014-12-16 17:43

@Brett Sergay I assume that your roots are of Eastern Europe origin and hence I can paint you with the same brush as depicted in today's times, violent, blood thirsty, human trafficking, narcotic producing, communistic approach to social behavior.... Lesson dude, don't paint everyone with the same brush. The Taliban are a bunch of idiots that live in a world that have no concept of modernity. These victims yes victims were 99% Muslim but yet were the intended targets of this militia. Extremism on both sides will lead to nothing but more bloodshed and hatred. Open your eyes and accept that religion will not go away and no religion preaches war only the zealots will manipulate the scriptures to suit there needs

      Grant Wright - 2014-12-16 19:42

Mr Dhorat, you are now singing a different tune are you? Please ask your Muslim brothers to march & protest against such action, don't just sit around.

Our Intelligence Network must be vigilant !!!!

      Pieter Calitz - 2014-12-16 18:03

      "Intelligence" Network? In South Africa?

      Raymon McNelly - 2014-12-17 09:05

Yes, it is a network of people trying to find intelligence... sadly it's still ongoing which takes a lot of time in South Africa.

  • John Malat - 2014-12-16 16:49

the crazy thing is that they still call these terrorists "militants", they are down right putrid drops who should be wiped off the face of this and any other planet.and yes they are TERRORISTS, sick muslim bastards

  • Pieter ZA - 2014-12-16 16:50

I wont be buying ANY halaal products in future. Take note suppliers. I wont be the only one.

      Annalize Schoeman - 2014-12-16 17:16

Me too, END OF HALAAL. No taxes for terrorists.

      zeenat.allie.16 - 2014-12-16 18:08

I'm convinced.... Forrest Gump is alive and well....stupid.

  • Pieter ZA - 2014-12-16 16:54

Time to start boycotting all halaal products. I dont want my money going to these terrorist groups.

  • CliveK - 2014-12-16 17:05

Why have previous comments been deleted? I reiterate: what do these monsters hope to achieve by committing such unspeakably evil acts? Can some of their apologists on this forum 'please explain' so that we mere mortals can understand how this furthers the cause of Islam.

      zeenat.allie.16 - 2014-12-16 18:07

Clive, these are idiots that live in culture and society that have not evolved. Look at the scenes and where they come from as well as there followers. Bear in mind the political play and money flow.... I am a Muslim and not in my name will this be be tolerated!

      CliveK - 2014-12-16 18:56

Thanks Zeenat, hopefully no Muslim will now try and justify this deed and negate your opposition.

  • Alicia Motsepe - 2014-12-16 17:30

    How heartbreaking!

  • John Humphries - 2014-12-16 17:31

    Well said Mashooda Dhorat

      CliveK - 2014-12-16 17:55

John and Binte: Up to a point, yes guys. But he still doesn't answer the question as to why more 'ordinary' Muslims don't speak out against these atrocities. Given this fact, is it unreasonable for non-Muslims to assume that a large number of Muslims find such barbarism acceptable?

      Slarty Bartfast - 2014-12-16 18:27

Clive, there are no protests from Muslims as no Jews are involved. Quite simple.

  • Binte Maya - 2014-12-16 17:41

Very well said Mashooda. .. If only we had more ppl who agree like John on these forums. .

  • PINKFLOOI - 2014-12-16 17:43

  • Johan Lemmer - 2014-12-16 17:49

  • Adrian Knott - 2014-12-16 18:24

100% correct, Cynical Cynic. Those self-righteous bastards will howl and cry when Israel defends itself. But they're VERY slow to march and demonstrate in OPEN objection to these murdering extremists.

  • Jeffery Morobe - 2014-12-16 19:58

Islam must be banned the world over

  • Jeffery Morobe - 2014-12-16 20:01

Islam is barbaric, it should be banned the world over

  • Milan Daniz - 2014-12-16 20:34

Zeenat tried to explain clearly, seems very few actually thought about what he was saying and attacked as any ignorant zealot would.

  • Andre Krige - 2014-12-16 20:52

CliveK it also astounds me that people from the western countries who invaded iraq in 2003 and murdered 100 ' s of thousand innocent people under an illegal war also didn't speak out against the atrocities happening there. Not to mention the 1000's of civilians getting caught in the cross fire of drone strikes happening today.

      CliveK - 2014-12-17 07:09

Hundreds of thousands of innocent people? I don't think so, Andre! Any valid points you make are undone by gross exaggeration as you attempt to justify the barbarism of your extremists.

  • Peter Louw - 2014-12-16 22:13

  • Damir Stojakovic - 2014-12-17 07:48
