Sydney - The parents of a 2-year-old who was rescued from the tracks at a railway station in Australia were intoxicated at the time of the incident, media reports said on Wednesday.

CCTV footage published on the Herald Sun newspaper website shows the pram into which the boy was strapped rolling off the platform on Saturday at a Melbourne station after his mother bends down to pick up something.

The woman is seen jumping onto tracks and as bystanders rush to intervene. One of the men who helped the woman and child off the tracks told 7 News television that the woman appeared to be in shock.

The Herald Sun said police were called and found the child's parents were drunk. The toddler sustained minor facial injuries, the report said.
