Pentagon lawyer: al-Qaeda on the run

2012-12-02 07:30

London - The Pentagon's top lawyer says the war on terror is not an endless conflict and the US is approaching a "tipping point" after which the military fight against al-Qaeda will be replaced by a law enforcement operation.

Jeh Johnson told an audience at Oxford University that the core of al-Qaeda is "degraded, disorganised and on the run", according to a transcript of Friday's speech.

Johnson, general counsel to the US Defence Department, said that once most al-Qaeda members are captured or killed, armed conflict will be replaced by "a counterterrorism effort against individuals" led by law enforcement and intelligence agencies.

His speech marked rare public comments by a senior US official about the end of the armed conflict launched after the 11 September attacks.

We all agree that Bush was a lunatic so why do they still think his "war on terror" is a great idea? War is terror FFS!

US has run out of money to continue this war. Look at their national debt, that's the only reason they stopping.

Terrorism is a strategy, not a place, and attempts to carpet-bomb it or occupy it or conquer it will inevitably fail.
