Los Angeles - A 69-year-old US woman who allegedly tried to cut off her husband's penis with a pair of scissors has been released on bail, while prosecutors mull whether to bring charges, lawyers said on Monday.

Virginia Valdez posted $100 000 bail and was freed from jail on Sunday, a day after being arrested following the alleged assault on her 62-year-old husband.

A Palm Springs Police Department spokesperson said Valdez was taken into custody on Saturday, after officers were called to the couple's home in response to a complaint by her husband.

"Officers made contact with the 62-year-old male victim, who reported that his wife had attempted to sever his penis with scissors, resulting in injuries to the area," said spokesperson Sergeant Melissa Desmarais.

"The victim received medical attention for treatment of a non-life threatening wound and has subsequently been released from the hospital," she added, declining to name the husband.

Valdez was arrested on suspicion of mayhem, assault with a deadly weapon and spousal abuse, Desmarais said.

In July, a 48-year-old California woman, Catherine Kieu Becker, was charged with allegedly drugging her estranged husband's dinner then tying him to a bed and cutting off his male organ.

In 1993, John Wayne Bobbitt had his penis cut off by his wife Lorena, who drove away and threw away the member from a moving car. It was recovered and sewn back on, and Bobbitt subsequently found success as a porn movie actor.

Preshen, seems like the lady misunderstood the term "Use it or lose it" used in rugby. Maybe she understood "Use it AND lose it"!

Why are even thinking about whether or not to prosecute this nutcase? Since when it was alright as long as it was a woman doing something terrible to a man?
