School suspends boy, 6, for harassment

2012-05-04 22:01

Colorado - A 6-year-old boy has been suspended from his US school for three days for sexual harassment after quoting a line from a song.

School officials say the boy was sent home after telling a girl, "I'm sexy and I know it."

Sable Elementary School issued a statement saying it couldn't discuss the case, but it referred to a school board policy that defines sexual harassment as any unwelcome sexual advance. There is no age limit.

KMGH-TV reports the boy is accused of disrupting other students.

He was sent home on Wednesday.

The boy's mother says it's the second time her son has gotten in trouble for quoting the song.

She questions whether he knows anything about sexual harassment.

Come to SA, and you'd be a hero. And the entire country would be \seething\ in anger at the girl.

      IcemanGP - 2012-05-04 22:43

Seems some people can't read sarcasm.

      dumisani.mbense - 2012-05-04 22:57

You are the only one who can find a joke on your comment

      marnusmnorval - 2012-05-04 23:10

Most of the songs nowadays has a sexual connotation..

      buyimasheleni.mjengu - 2012-05-05 15:38

wow how do u feel after writting this crab?taking our country back like that?

  • Jacques - 2012-05-04 22:30

It's a song! The kid is just reciting the words to a song! Laughable, this is.

  • arne.verhoef - 2012-05-04 22:39

This is bloody ridiculous! This is where PC goes too far. Imagine all the silly things you did and said at school, you were doing it in a naive, innocent manner, it didnt deserve this.

  • sfisopdlamini.dlamini - 2012-05-04 22:42

Its funny how other people interpret sexual harassment. I don't think a quote that says, \I 'm and I know it\ can be interpreted as sexual harasment. The 6-year old boy should be returned back to school because he has done nothing wrong.

Find another school. Just imagine what they would do with 80's pop songs, like Frankie's Relax, or James Browns "sex machine",or Right Said Fred, "too sexy for my shirt", holy cow, no one would be at school.

  • Raj - 2012-05-04 23:14

Wow!!! Interpretations, shouting at a child in South Africa is Child Abuse.

  • Frank - 2012-05-04 23:38

Ohh come on man! The poor laaitie is only six!

  • Anthony - 2012-05-04 23:53

faith in humanity lost...this is pathetic.

      louis.langenhoven - 2012-05-05 11:11

more and more we become slaves to our own rules only to put shame on ourselves- see also how people in Norway have to listen to all the gruesome evidence whilst everyone already know the guy is guilty- he admitted he did it. In afrikaans there is a beautiful word for it- letterknegte

  • pat.torngren - 2012-05-05 00:06

A six year-old child has no idea what this means. He has overheard something, thinks it's funny and is repeating it. We make a big mistake when we think children have the same understanding of words as an adult. The child is probably traumatised now, and has no idea why he is in trouble. After all, if someone sang it in a song he heard, why should it be okay to sing it in a song and not say it at school?

  • edgar.m.nkadimeng - 2012-05-05 00:18

Oh!came on a six year chld dnt knw wht does de song mean an dnt knw abt sexual harrasmnt. The is something that the educatr's ar hidn

      louis.langenhoven - 2012-05-05 11:13

I think he means there is more to the story and we are not told what it is...which also crossed my mind

  • Ndabe Mdlalose - 2012-05-05 01:11

  • sally.lewitt - 2012-05-05 01:42

This poor little boys will be mentally scared for life with a suspension for an innocent act of singing a song and accusing him of (cough...), yes you heard it, sexual harassment.. The adults should be strung up a tree by their toes! Shame on THEM!!!!

  • louwc - 2012-05-05 03:40

Obviously they (Sable School) could not discuss the case, cause there is none! We all teach our kids to sing along to songs on the radio. We laugh and applaud as they go through their routines of Mambo No 5, etc. She Wolf from Shakira? Big trouble.... small storm in a very little tea cup! Leave the little guy be....he did nothing wrong.

  • Vincent - 2012-05-05 06:34

The boy is sexy period! Please mom SAfrican education system has more common sense than American. So, bring your boy to SA! LMFAO...

      JasonMichelleVanderbijlpark - 2012-05-05 08:47

U joking right? Their teachers etc might over-react and make a big issue out of nothing, but at least their education system is worth something. The standard of education has dropped so much in SA over the last few years that Matric means nothing. This 6 year old American kid could probably pass our Grade 7 final exams with ease. Get a grip with reality and see things for what they are, SA is doomed in more ways than one.

      buyimasheleni.mjengu - 2012-05-05 15:35

really?keep telling yourself that,u myt bliv it someday

  • Lerato - 2012-05-05 06:57

  • Barefoot - 2012-05-05 06:59

They have to admit that song has a nice tune to it

  • Raj - 2012-05-05 07:12

How much does a 6 year old know about sexual advances, besides they were the words from a song. Here in South Africa we had adults doing the wrong, singing mshini wami at political gatherings which is worse.

  • Kevin - 2012-05-05 07:29

The school board is stupid and they don't know it! Oh please.........

      louis.langenhoven - 2012-05-05 11:14

  • tnmunyai - 2012-05-05 08:26

  • Hermann - 2012-05-05 15:54

And the teachers calls herself an educator - what a joke.

  • Bruce - 2012-05-05 17:24

The kid probably said it twice, because he got such a great reaction when he said it the first time. Just what any child would do. Same as a temper tantrum. As one of mine once said when being reprimanded for annoying her sister "But it works so well!"
