Student 'sells' virginity

2010-02-03 07:16

Wellington - A 19-year-old New Zealand student "sold" her virginity to a stranger for more than 45 000 New Zealand dollars ($31 500) to pay university fees, according to news reports on Wednesday.

The student, who called herself "Unigirl" in an advertisement on an auction website, said she received more than 1 200 bids from the 30 000 people who viewed her ad online.

"I have accepted an offer in excess of 45 000 dollars, which is way beyond what I dreamed," she said.

In the ad, she said she was attractive and still a virgin.

"I am offering my virginity by tender to the highest bidder as long as all personal safety aspects are observed," she said on the website

"This is my decision made with full awareness of the circumstances and possible consequences," she said.

Website proprietor Ross MacKenzie told the Waikato Times that he had been authorised to confirm the transaction, but was committed to protecting the student's identity.

  • GTG - 2010-02-03 07:58

you go girl, its better than giving to some guy who will forget about you afterwards. get your education!

  • Simon - 2010-02-03 07:59

2 Weeks ago an Irish 17yo girl was doing the same thing. Really terrible.....that I couldnt put my bid in..

  • Nadene - 2010-02-03 08:01

Isn't that the same as prostitution?

  • Dean - 2010-02-03 08:03

    Just an expensive prostitute..

  • Thilly - 2010-02-03 08:04

I don't think it was the only option for her to raise money for the varsity fees. as ladies we must respect our bodies. all i can say is that she lost something very important"treasure" with a stranger for that matter.

  • shades - 2010-02-03 08:06

She is a prostitute....o my word.No Shame what so ever

  • JULIE - 2010-02-03 08:11

My first thoughts are of heartache and courage. The desperation to want to further her education ,to follow a dream and make a success of her life, however, does this not fall under prostitution, as woman all over the world have followed this type of life to earn money to survive - where does one draw the line?

  • Dawie - 2010-02-03 08:17

She may just be the most expensive prostitute out there.

  • Duane - 2010-02-03 08:18

I a sign of a moral gap is society that this can happen. Well with a president that has no respect for women and claims cultural privileges, what more can the human race expect from stupidity.

  • Jac7 - 2010-02-03 08:19

Dear lord, everything is a joke now-a-days. University is overrated girl, you could make it on your own. Well, guess she kinda is. Well, it would be an interesting story to tell the kids...

  • PRESHEN GOVENDER - 2010-02-03 08:23

Virginity is not an act of dignity it is a lack of opportunity

  • Paul - 2010-02-03 08:26

It's sad that she had to sell/sacrifice herself this way, but we all do things sometimes that we thought we wouldn't, especially when times are truly tough. Well done in your strength to see this through.

  • Bigfoot - 2010-02-03 08:26

Well done girl. I hope you are studying commerce and marketing because htis is a great way to make the money you need by selling soemthing rare.

  • Leon - 2010-02-03 08:30

this happens daily in evcery country around the world. Young woman sell their bodies to multiple men. the alledged virginity is just a novelty like a brand name on clothes.

  • Shocked - 2010-02-03 08:34

    Very very sad.

  • Rob - 2010-02-03 08:48

I bet she pulls the same stunt in a few months time. How many guys are going to question her, all they want is a good time and to believe they are the first.

  • Tshepo - 2010-02-03 08:52

Come on Willem. The man is flat down and you want to finish him off. The girl is brave. Atleast she can only do it once.

  • Sam - 2010-02-03 08:54

    Western Culture!!! hahahahahah

  • lee - 2010-02-03 08:57

    its her body, her choice!!!

  • Theo - 2010-02-03 09:03

In spite of the world's applause as evidenced hereunder, she will be dying a little in herself. And the next time a little more. Our world needs moral absolutes, so easily discarded in our post-modernistic society. Don't believe me? Look around you at the evidence, my dear friend....

  • ClintWestwood - 2010-02-03 09:06

Why bother about university..She should become a fulltime hooker, there's more money in that.

  • jj - 2010-02-03 09:12

Most girls give it away for a lot less. its her body, she got what she wanted,he got what he wanted, no problem.

  • Don - 2010-02-03 09:14

Soooo, technically she is a hooker with a one time specialty?

  • Truth - 2010-02-03 09:15

All women are prostitutes. It just depends on the price. Think about it. Everyone has their price.

  • Di - 2010-02-03 09:15

This is so sad. What is becoming of our youth? Why do they have to degrade themselves this way?

  • ECN101 - 2010-02-03 09:22

She's a pioneer entrepreneur. With time market forces will reduce the value of this "resource" to a little more than general prostitute value.

  • Wally - 2010-02-03 09:22

I honestly think what she did was brave and stupid at the same time. Now that she got the money,What would happen if she fails and she run out of money?.Remember she is not a virgin anymore. She should have try other means.I wonder how old is she?.

  • Taxlady - 2010-02-03 09:25

@all the judges (men) Other than taking a girl to bed and bragging about it to your friends(I was the first)(she's a real freak) One man was actually willing to pay for his bragging rights and she got her education paid for legally, without debts as well as knowing the guy won't soon forget something like this...

  • Alyson - 2010-02-03 09:26

I say "go girl". Most of us give our virginity away for free, at least this way she will have a degree to show for hers.

  • G - 2010-02-03 09:28

Wahaha, you people crack me up! You're a bunch of Hippocrates! How many of you gave your virginity up to some loser? Very few people save it for someone truly special, I'm glad I did, but I fear I'm in the minority. Having said that, I'm not going to come and judge this girl for what she has done. I say good for her, she did just what a lot of you did, except she actually got something worthwhile out of it.

  • wax on wax off - 2010-02-03 09:29

Oh GTG how mush for an hour???

after this easy money one can only imagine where to from here. this is just another high class (garbage) prostitute in the making

  • Kirsten - 2010-02-03 09:30

Its her body and she's entitled to do exactly what she pleases with it.

  • lebo - 2010-02-03 09:40

ha its shocking news where are her parents anyway.

  • Gerry - 2010-02-03 09:40

What does it profit a man(woman Incl), to gain the whole world but loose his(her) soul.Mrk 8:36

  • Ash - 2010-02-03 09:46

Rather the 45000 than a bunch of lies and empty promises

  • JustinD - 2010-02-03 09:49

It's just an expensive shag.....who cares!!!!

  • manndla - 2010-02-03 09:51

DU&WI.shame on you,the hatrace you have in yourhearts its one that makes you fools.stickaround heartattach is caming yourway.

  • ghostbuddy - 2010-02-03 09:54

Then what will happen once the money is finished, surely she will need more money to complete her she going to do it again, but she is no longer a virgin now, what will be her catch phrase this time?

  • Jo - 2010-02-03 09:55

Amazing how all the men comment on her being a hooker. Most men out there go around deliberately finding woman to de-flower and they see nothing wrong with it. Then when the deed is done the man is no where to be found :P I say good for that girl to at least get something for that deal!

  • clayton - 2010-02-03 10:01

one of the most disturbing and sad things i have heard in a long time.

  • Joseph - 2010-02-03 10:05

Shows how many desperate men are out there. Ag shame.

  • Maritsa - 2010-02-03 10:06

If you do not have rich parents that can afford to give further education, it is danm hard to get a study loan from a bank, i know i have tried, with no degree of deploma, getting a proper job to be able to pay for your own studies is nearly impossible. What were her choices? I do not belive it was nessesarly the right choice, but she gave herself to be able to further her chances in life, to be able to reach her dreams an aspiration. And by the way the men that say all women are prostitutes, so are you! because any man would give anything for sex even their soul!

  • Bodie - 2010-02-03 10:07

You really live up to your name, yes?

Wondering how old she is when the article clearly states that she is "A 19-year-old New Zealand student" indeed!!!

Or did the lack of "pikchas" cause you to lose interest in the article?

Although, judging from your standard of English, I bet you wished you had something to sell way back when you dropped out of Std 4, ne'?

Say hello to Foolius for me.

  • Jojo - 2010-02-03 10:09

The government of Newzealand must hold its head in shame, why not give grants to these students? Newzealand is not an African country after all.I wonder what would be next option sould she need more money?

  • Andrew - 2010-02-03 10:11

I guarantee the experience will change her...and not in a good way! Say what you want but when you lose it, you never get it back and that experience of sharing your body intimately with a stranger.....well, she will regret it unfortunately.

  • dipsy - 2010-02-03 10:15

A brave girl indeed. Sacrifice today for a better tomorrow. Lovely story...

  • Goldfinger - 2010-02-03 10:16

Some of the howls of indignation and "outrage" expressed here is so hypocritical. People tend to act all "pious" when they are not the ones in the dock. Perhaps its envy. Reminds of me of the crowd booing Terry in yesterday's match - how many of those men haven't cheated on their wives and/or girlfriends?

  • ebby - 2010-02-03 10:18

good 4 u.once its over at least u have something of value for ur virginity.v many many regrets over mine as i never had a choice.majority men cheat on women, married or not & they prefer it free.

  • Oldschool - 2010-02-03 10:27

Some things are sacred and intented to be given away - not sold. If the ladies commenting below about giving it to some loser who is goint to forget about it in the morning made bad judgement calls in their lives - does that mean everyone does? Not all men are bastards and some actually still care. I feel sorry for this girls misguided effort to put a price on what should be cherished and shared with "the one".
