The US is still reeling from two explosions which struck the annual Boston Marathon, killing three and injuring over 140 people.

Washington - Investigators believe they have identified a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings, a source told CNN on Wednesday.

The source, who had been briefed on the investigation, said what officials believe is a breakthrough came from analysis of video from a department store near the site of the second explosion.

Video from a Boston television station also contributed to the progress, CNN was told.

The source would not elaborate.

However, said on Wednesday evening that authorities had reportedly identified an image of a suspect carrying – and perhaps dropping – a black bag at the second bombing scene

Three people died in the twin blasts at the finish line of the marathon and more than 150 people were injured.
