Syria war crimes suspects list drawn up

Geneva - United Nations human rights investigators said on Monday that they had drawn up a new secret list of Syrians and units suspected of committing war crimes who should face criminal prosecution some day.

The independent investigators, led by Paulo Pinheiro, said they had gathered "a formidable and extraordinary body of evidence" and urged the UN Security Council to refer the situation in Syria to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

"A second confidential list of individuals and units believed to be responsible for violations is being provided to the High Commissioner of Human Rights," Pinheiro told the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

He said there was an "increasing and alarming presence" of Islamist militants in Syria, some joining the rebels and others operating independently. Their presence tended to radicalise the rebels who have also committed crimes, he said.

Western countries are seeking yet another condemnation of Syrian President Bashar Assad's government at the session.

"The international community must ensure impunity will not prevail," European Union ambassador Mariangela Zappia said at Monday's debate that was also attended by Syrian envoy Faysal Khabbaz Hamoui.

Human rights must be human rights not political agendas.

You are right Madhi; where is the list for Israel which is butchering sons and daughters of Palestine?

Israel was created in 1948 from 52% of the land formerly occupied by the Jewish and Palestinian people, and Palestine 43%. Most of the Israeli territory was the Negev Desert. Jerusalem fell into neither territory. Palestinians with their unelected, self-serving neighbors declared war on Israel the very next day. In the 1960's they even invaded Israel twice. Full military invasions. The result: Israel survived and pushed them back, gaining territory in the process. This is the origin of what some wrongly call "stealing land". There have been almost daily attacks by Palestinians, incited by their self-serving unelected backers. Palestinians even teach their children at Kindergarten to attack Israel, rather than be peaceful. Children. Kindergarten. From day one, and even today it's wage war on Israel. Israel defends herself. Yes sometimes going too far, which is unacceptable, but self-defense nonetheless. All that needs to happen is for Palestinians to choose peace side by side with Israel. This is more likely going forward now because the unelected dictators are being removed from power by their people, one by one. They will no longer use the Palestinians for their own internal political ploys. Unfortunately some are slow to see what is really happening, such as Madhi, Shane and Tinotenda. They're allowing themselves to be manipulated by the very people abusing the Palestinians: the unelected dictators in the region, and they don't know it.

i think fred needs to get out a bit more, and see his glass house is full of cracks

Let's look at a few facts on what land was possed by jews and palistinians back in 1948 and what is possed by whom now, and then a map drawn up back in the 1800's of Palestine "Every time we do something you tell me America will do this and will do that . . . I want to tell you something very clear: Don't worry about American pressure on Israel. We, the Jewish people, control America, and the Americans know it." -- Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, October 3, 2001.

      shane.loxton - 2012-09-17 23:45

HISTORICAL PALESTINE Another claim that Israel likes to make is that Palestine never really existed to start with. "How can we return the occupied territories? There is nobody to return them to." Golda Maier, March 8, 1969. "There was no such thing as Palestinians, they never existed." Golda Maier Israeli Prime Minister June 15, 1969 Oh? The people shall hear, and be afraid: sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Palestina. -- Exodus 15:14 Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken : for out of the serpent's root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent. -- Isaiah 14:29 Howl , O gate; cry , O city; thou, whole Palestina, art dissolved : for there shall come from the north a smoke, and none shall be alone in his appointed times. -- Isaiah 14:31 Yea, and what have ye to do with me, O Tyre, and Zidon, and all the coasts of Palestine?will ye render me a recompence? and if ye recompense me, swiftly and speedily will Ireturn your recompence upon your own head; -- Joel 3:4 And again, the maps tell a different story.

Hahaha, fred is funny, u don't get tired feeding us the same old bs from haaretz without even referencing. Be a proud zionazi and defend the killing of palestinian children and not look for any fig leaf to justify or explain it. I am proud to be sympathetic Hamas and Hizbollah over Abbas's failed policies and I have no shame on that. So grow a pair.

Shocking how you still choose to hold onto such an obviously faulty and frankly stupid perspective when members of your own community are literally being butchered, tortured and raped by the tens of thousands by an unelected dictator, also from your own community. Muslims will never be free for as long as you do this.
