Taliban claims deadly Afghanistan blast

Kabul – The Taliban claimed responsibility for an attack in which reports say five people died and 15 were injured on Friday. The Taliban however claimed that the attack had killed 12 US soldiers.

"Twelve American soldiers were killed and two of their tanks were destroyed," Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said in a statement. Neither the US government nor the Nato-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) confirmed the claim.

Provincial Governor Mehrabuddin Safi cited five civilians killed and 15 injured as the only victims of a suicide bomber who detonated his explosives-laden car next to a US military convoy in eastern Afghanistan.

"The incident took place this morning in Tagab district of Kapisa province, where a US military convoy was on the way," the official said.

US troops took over security responsibility when French soldiers withdrew from Kapisa province in November.

Safi said two houses nearby were destroyed in the attack.

ISAF confirmed the attack.

"According to our reports, there was a vehicle attack on the coalition convoy in Tagab district, but we have no reports of coalition deaths or injuries," said Les Carroll, an ISAF spokesperson.

Carroll did not specify if it was a US military convoy, but said a number of civilians were killed and injured.

Please remember people, there are some who pursue extreme measures in their holy wars, but Muslims are a peaceful nation and we embrace peace with our neighbours.

That is good. However I do not see any condemnation in your statement.

Who am I to condem my brother?

      avremel.niselow - 2013-01-25 14:24

But surely if your religion is peaceful, then these violent extremists are acting contrary to it, and thus distorting your religion when they claim to act in the name of Islam. If you truly disagree with their actions then surely you should condemn them?

I was amoungst muslims fighting terrorism as i intended to do in the British army. I agree not all muslims are out there to blow themselves up.Infact my friend whom was muslim, i asked him why are you here he replied ' there are 2 types of muslims 1: extreamists 2: me, fighting the same cause as yourself.

Well Labib is not in the second category so he must be in the first.

If you are not against them, then you are for them. You cannot allow your muslim brothers to be called muslim if they are doing wrong. If you do not speak up and attempt at least to stop them from murdering people, then you are just as sinful as they are. You cannot have it both ways. Here Ladies and Gentlemen is the classic "religion of peace" pull the wool over our eyes statement. and then ended with "Who am I to condem my brother?" Exactly, because you support him, but are too spineless to say so in a situation where you are outnumbered.

Yet the Taliban accuse NATO of killing civilians. Why would the anti west not condone this attack is it because Taliban say it killed US troops.
