Time names 'Protester' person of the year

New York - Time magazine named the collective "protester" around the world as its person of the year on Wednesday, citing the change brought by street demonstrations from Arab countries to New York.

The shared honour for protesters beat the traditional individual contenders, who included Admiral William McCraven, commander of the US mission to kill al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden.

"There's this contagion of protest," managing editor Richard Stengel said on NBC television.

"These are folks who are changing history already and they will change history in the future."

The magazine goes on the newsstands on Friday.

i like it, like that time in the mid 80's when the computer was the person of the year: fresh, creative and unpredictable.

It is an award that is loaded with self-interest. If the media don't encourage us protesters, they will become extinct.

What awesome news. Its about time we stopped letting a select few rule the world and make our decisions for us. I'm not talking about elected leaders but rather our global government. Thumbs up Time
