Turkey admits contact with Israel

Ankara - Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu admitted on Sunday that Turkey had resumed contacts with Israel to try to bring an end to the hostilities in Gaza, despite its decision to freeze diplomatic relations with the Jewish state.

"In the Gaza process, it's true, Israel held discussions with Turkey through foreign ministry and secret service channels," Davutoglu said in a televised interview, quoted by the Anatolia news agency.

"If it means preventing blood from flowing, if war conditions are met, we meet everyone. There is nothing wrong with that," Davutoglu said.

He was referring to the eight-day confrontation between Israel and Gaza militants that claimed the lives of 166 Palestinians and six Israelis.

Davutoglu said however that the contact did not mean the countries had resumed relations, which were broken after Israeli commandos raided a Gaza-bound Turkish aid flotilla in the Mediterranean in 2010, killing nine Turks on board.

Disappointing. Turkey should not entertain terrorists. They've already shot one Palestinian in the head since the ceasefire. Negotiations are a waste of time.

Israel was created in 1948 from 52% of the land formerly occupied by the Jewish and Palestinian people, and Palestine 43%. Most of the Israeli territory was the Negev Desert. Jerusalem fell into neither territory. Palestinians with their unelected, self-serving neighbors declared war on Israel the very next day. In the 1960's they even invaded Israel twice. Full military invasions. The result: Israel survived and pushed them back, gaining territory in the process. This is the origin of what you wrongly call "stealing land". There have been almost daily attacks by Palestinians, incited by their self-serving unelected backers. Palestinians even teach their children at Kindergarten to attack Israel, rather than be peaceful. Children. Kindergarten. From day one, and even today it's wage war on Israel. Israel defends herself. Yes sometimes going too far, which is unacceptable, but self-defense nonetheless. All that needs to happen is for Palestinians to choose peace side by side with Israel. This is more likely going forward now because the unelected dictators are being removed from power by their people, one by one. They will no longer use the Palestinians for their own internal political ploys. - 2012-11-26 08:22

3 warning shots before being shot on the border. North Korea wouldn't even give warning shots, they just shoot you in no mans land. How do you propose peace wihout some negotiation?

"Israel was created in 1948 from 52% of the land..." what is that percentage in 2012?

      fred.fraser.12 - 2012-11-27 06:35

Less, because unfortunately the Palestinians allowed the brutal unelected dictators in the region to manipulate them into invading Israel twice, losing ground in the process. It's an important, age-old, preventative rule of war: invade your neighbor but risk losing territory if your neighbor prevails. It seems you want them to lose more territory, and suffer more.

Wonder what would have happened if Isreali's tried to break a naval blockade of Turkey's and then attacked its military during , after that withdrawing it's diplomats. Any other country than Isreal and this Turkey would be 'out of order'. Now when they do the right thing and just speak to Isreal through the apporpriate channels , they have to apologise and justify it. Pervasive anti-semitism , racism and bigotry that can make glaring double standards possible.
