Taipei - Typhoon Soudelor left six people dead and four missing in Taiwan, authorities said on Sunday.

The body of an 8-year-old girl missing since late last week was found early on Sunday.

The girl had been swept out to sea with her mother and a twin sister in Yilan County on Thursday.

The Central Weather Bureau lifted the typhoon alert on Sunday morning, saying there would still be heavy rainfall in the southern and eastern regions, state-run Central News Agency reported.

The storm was packing maximum sustained winds of 173km per hour, with gusts reaching 209kph. Traffic lights and power lines were down in many parts of the island.

State-run Taiwan Power Company said Soudelor had caused electricity outages for about four million households, the biggest power loss ever to result from a typhoon in the island's history.

The typhoon also left at least 379 people injured. About 7 700 accidents resulted from fallen trees and shop signs, emergency operations officials said.
