London - Britian's best-known radical Muslim preacher says he plans to plead not guilty to a charge of inviting support for the Islamic State group (ISIS) through online lectures.

Anjem Choudary, 48, was charged under the Terrorism Act with supporting ISIS, a banned organisation, between June 29 2014, and March 6 2015.

Another man, 32-year-old Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, faces the same charge.

During a hearing on Wednesday at London's Westminster Magistrates Court, Choudary indicated he would plead not guilty. He was ordered detained until his next court appearance on August 28.

Choudary is the former leader of a banned group that staged demonstrations outside the US Embassy on the anniversary of September 11 and burned memorial poppies on Remembrance Day.

The group operated under various names, including al-Muhajiroun and Islam4UK.
