Bangkok - An elderly British man and his Thai wife were beaten to death in a suspected robbery at a beach resort in Thailand, police said on Wednesday.

A worker at the resort in Thap Sakae district of Prachuap Khiri Khan province, 280km south of Bangkok, found the badly beaten bodies of Michael Raymond, aged 68 and Suchada Baokhamdee, aged 52, on Tuesday afternoon in their beach front bungalow.

"They were beaten with a chair and other hard objects," case officer Captain Winai Raila-aied said by telephone.

The couple had checked in at the resort on the Gulf of Thailand a day earlier.

Police have begun questioning possible suspects who live nearby and are waiting for relatives of the couple to check what belongings are missing.

Winai said Raymond had lived in the northeastern Thai province of Khon Kean for two years since he got married.

Thailand And Phuket is fast gaining bad publicity. will definitely think twice about going there. not that i feel safe here. better deal with devil you know than doing wrong turn.

This is VERY unusual in Thailand. It's still a safe place (crime-wise that is) unless you're really reckless. Where this happened is pretty close to the Burmese border though.

Mike the Thai's will sort this out very quickly, I just love the place, as you say relatively crime free, those Thai police don't stand for any rubbish, enjoy yourself but start trouble at your peril.

I live in thailand. after having 3 cars stolen, two house break ins and a gun held to my head, my aunt shot 7 times in an attempted hijacking, and my step mom shot in the head (I lived in durban), I had had enough. Here I sleep peacefully, and even get to walk down the road at night. There is little aggression and life is simple. Thailand is great... It hurts too much to live in sa (both physically And mentally)
