UK protesters slam Israel

2012-11-18 11:09

London - Hundreds of protesters demonstrated near the Israeli embassy in London on Saturday, waving placards and chanting slogans like "From London to Ramallah organise the intifada".

Speakers on a podium condemned the British government after Foreign Secretary William Hague said the Hamas regime running the Gaza Strip bore "principal responsibility" for the escalation of violence.

The rally was called by the left-wing Stop the War Coalition, the Palestine Solidarity Campaign and the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.

PSC director Sarah Colborne said demonstrators wanted to show their opposition to the Foreign Office's standpoint.

"We are insisting that the British government uphold international law and human rights and tells Israel to end its war now," she said.

"It's very clear what is happening here: Gaza is under siege, Israel started this by assassinating the person who was trying to negotiate a long-term truce with Israel.

"It's very clear who started this and who is suffering."

Protesters waved placards reading "End the criminal siege on Gaza", "Free Palestine" and "Gaza - stop the massacre".

Manuel Hassassian, the Palestinian Authority's envoy to Britain, said the flare-up of violence signalled the "beginning of the end" for Israel, which was "digging its grave".

"The conflict is going towards convulsive violence, towards insecurity, towards de-stabilisation," he added.

He said Palestinians were "very frustrated with the UK government on its stand in supporting Israel in defending itself.

"The international community is watching the Israelis killing the Palestinians and inflicting so much damage on them and their properties without outright condemnation."

Hundreds took part in a similar rally in Edinburgh.

More lies by the Palestinians. Hate to say it but the only way Israel is going to eliminate this threat is by bringing hell down on those who condone and also fire rockets at innocent Israeli civilians. Long live Israel!!!

Well said Hendrik! Fight fire with an inferno.

      Too true!

  • cameronrh1 - 2012-11-18 11:16

Yep and they conveniently omit the true reason why the recent escalation started... With Hamas targeting a IDF jeep injuring 4 soldiers. What did they expect to happen? Israel not to retaliate?

      Desilusionada - 2012-11-18 11:51

Israel started this by assassinating the person who was trying to negotiate a long-term truce with Israel. Yeah Right! How much of a leader and how much control did he have that he can be negotiating for peace, while Israel is being attacked. Give him the Darwin Award in this case. He was told to stop firing rockets and he still told his followers to carry on? Deluded bunch of idiots......

      jeremy.bard.31 - 2012-11-18 12:07

It is sad if your history lesson timeline only commences when Israel is attacked (or criticized), as does the usual Israeli narrative/s. It’s true that on Saturday, prior to the expanded Israeli bombardment, the military wing of the Popular Front For the Liberation of Palestine shot an anti-tank missile at an IDF vehicle near the Gaza border, wounding four Israeli soldiers. But what prompted the firing of the anti-tank missile? First, on Monday, 5 November, Israeli forces shot and killed 23 year old Ahmad Nabhani when he “approached the border fence with Israel.” According to at least one account, Nabhani was mentally challenged. Then, on Thursday, 8 November, the IDF – eight tanks and four bulldozers, to be exact – invaded southern Gaza, shooting and killing a 13-year old boy. According to investigations conducted by PCHR, "at approximately 16:30 on Thursday, as a result of the indiscriminate shooting by IDF military vehicles that had moved into the ‘Abassan village, 13-year-old Ahmed Younis Khader Abu Daqqa was seriously wounded by a bullet to the abdomen. At the time he was shot, Ahmed had been playing football with his friends in front of his family’s house, located nearly 1,200 meters away from the area where the IDF were present".

      jeremy.bard.31 - 2012-11-18 12:13

So, even if honest observers brush aside the cruel and inhumane Israeli blockade on Gaza, along with various other atrocities - including but not limited to continued illegal settlement building on Palestinian land - and refuse to let it influence the equation of exactly which side started this flare up of violence, it is clear Israel started this latest clash. And in response to the response, Israel has waged a harsh, disproportionate military assault, couple with lots of spin and propaganda for the gullible (but quickly diminishing) few.

      Desilusionada - 2012-11-18 14:03

"and four bulldozers, to be exact – invaded southern Gaza, shooting and killing a 13-year old boy." Oh great so bulldozers not shoot as well? Shows how cleaver Israelis are. Armed Bulldozers.............

      Desilusionada - 2012-11-18 14:08

yeah sincerest apologies. I forgot the blockade with the open sea and beautiful beach on the one side, and the open border with Egypt on the other. Makes things difficult. Especially if one country (like many in Africa and Europe), wishes not to have all kinds of goods transported across their borders. Especially if so when more rockets could be built to shoot at women and children. While hiding behind women and children...............

      jeremy.bard.31 - 2012-11-18 17:06

@Desilusionada. Gosh, you really know very little do you?!! Have you not heard of Rachel Corrie, the American human rights activist, that was murdered by an Israeli bulldozer, not to mention the tens of thousands of Palestinian homes bulldozed by Israel to make way for illegal Israeli settlements? Have you also not heard about the Mavi Marmara (and many others) carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza, intercepted by Israeli Commandos, murdering many on board? Have you not heard of Palestinian fishermen being shot at and killed along the Gaza coast? And you call this free. Gaza is known as the "largest prison on Earth".

      fred.fraser.12 - 2012-11-18 17:09

Israel was created in 1948 from 52% of the land formerly occupied by the Jewish and Palestinian people, and Palestine 43%. Most of the Israeli territory was the Negev Desert. Jerusalem fell into neither territory. Palestinians with their unelected, self-serving neighbors declared war on Israel the very next day. In the 1960's they even invaded Israel twice. Full military invasions. The result: Israel survived and pushed them back, gaining territory in the process. This is the origin of what you wrongly call "stealing land". There have been almost daily attacks by Palestinians, incited by their self-serving unelected backers. Palestinians even teach their children at Kindergarten to attack Israel, rather than be peaceful. Children. Kindergarten. From day one, and even today it's wage war on Israel. Israel defends herself. Yes sometimes going too far, which is unacceptable, but self-defense nonetheless. All that needs to happen is for Palestinians to choose peace side by side with Israel. This is more likely going forward now because the unelected dictators are being removed from power by their people, one by one. They will no longer use the Palestinians for their own internal political ploys.

      Desilusionada - 2012-11-18 22:32

@jeremy.bard.31 Gosh, perhaps I know more than you and thus not under the influence of BS propaganda. Where in Gaza are the Israeli settlements? Legal or otherwise? Israel built a fence to keep Israelis INSIDE Gaza? Why call it "humanitarian aid" when it is simple trade via Egypt? The bottom line is 3 simple words: Stop the rockets...... PS. Before that coward sa.gunner.5 deleted his posts, these were much more coherent threads.

Unfortunatly the UK is now suffering from yrs of labour misguided rule and have far too many forigners running around there pretending to be citizens but use their rights to further terriorst aims and ideals. Time for the conservatives to clean out those vipers and nests.

      jeremy.bard.31 - 2012-11-18 11:52

How ironical Gary. If there are any "foreigners running around" in any country, take a good, long hard look at Israel. Take a further look at the illegal settlements on Palestinian territory and who the inhabitants are. I couldn't agree with you more on Labour policies though. Their unconditional support for Israel and bowing to UK Zionist lobby groups is one of the root causes for them being misguided.

      wally.williams.148 - 2012-11-18 11:55

And SA is following suite, my friend. We have such an insurgence that it is almost unreal. I have never in my life seen so many Pakistani's, Chinese, Nigerian, Zimbabwean and other foreigners in our country as at present. All are doing business or involved in something. You don't take a stance as Australia did and you will end up having to dance to the tunes of the ppl who have a country of their own, or should have. It is like the slow wave of a tsunami...deceiving on face value but running pretty fast and sweeping you off your feet. It will devour you. We need to have strict control over this, but I do not believe the will-power is present. May there be change before it is really too late. As a country we need to get back to our roots as a Christian nation and turn to God and pray and be vigilant. May He again turn His face upon this beautiful country.

      joe.mase.7 - 2012-11-18 15:44

@Wally - you are a fine one to talk about the Pakis, Chinese, Nigerians etc... you sound 'coloured' to me.. with a warped sense of the Christian belief. How dare you quote Genises and refer to Ismael as the 'bastard' son. Is this what your bible teaches you. I suggest you go to a Catholic Priest and confess, then ask to be excorcised, I think you are not following the 12 disciples but rather 12 Satans that have possesed you. If Jesus was around today, he would first excorcise you before feeding his flock with fish. I think you drank too much of the water that turned into wine. The true seed of Abraham do not behave like calf worshipers and you certainly do not know the history of the region. It is not a war about Mulsim and Jew; it never was; it is about humanity, it is about a nation that was forcibly displaced ( you do not know about being forcibly moved from your house, it was before your time) by zionists; not true Jews. They are using everything at there disposal to fight back. israel is not interested in peace, they never were, the only peace they know is a piece of this land and a piece of that land. Now go get yourselve excorcised...

      joe.mase.7 - 2012-11-18 16:24

@Watchman... Boet, my message was clearly meant for Wally... so don't fung a pein. However, which version of the 26000 versions of Christuanity are you referring to when you quote Jesus... Give me the version number and the year you made the changes in the Bible and the verse. Perhaps you be 'box' some palce else.

      watchman.smith - 2012-11-18 16:55

@joe.mase.7. Well I don't see anything in Wally's post about Ishmael being the bastard son, but I said it. If you go and have a look again, and for good reason I said it, because Abraham had an illegitimate son through Sarahs maid. Joe, what do you call an illegitimate child? A bastard, isn't that correct? By the way I only use the KJV Bible. Now seeing you are so Biblically astute, tell me who did the promise of the seed of Jesus Christ the Messiah come through, was it Ishmael or Isaac? Go read Matthew 1:1-16.

@watchman, you being a bit hard on this one comment don't you think? It is common knowledge that the Muslim backed anc have made it official policy to back Hammas and the Palestinians. The fact that you might disagree is irrelevant, the official stand in the international community is that SA is backing Islam now.

      joe.mase.7 - 2012-11-18 15:57

I think you should go to israel or the Uk where you are; to rally this support, try looking it up in Facebook, you will find groups that you could join. I'm amazed the amount of Afrikaners that have become pro Zionist. In the 60s and early 70s, in the small country towns around SA; 95% of Afrikaners would never trade with 'Jewish' (apologies for using the term Jewish; Zionism was not that popular then) sales reps. Amazing how times have changed.

Who the hell has been firing missiles at Israel over the last couple of weeks? Who the hell keeps on threatening to wipe Israel of the map of the earth? What the hell do you expect Israel to do when being confronted from almost all sides? Long range missiles originating from Iran were fired at Tel Aviv...convenient to leave that out of the rhethoric? This is pure envy and hatred aimed at God's - The Only and Almighty God - ppl and at Christ's followers. You may curse Israel, but I need to remind you...The Living Almighty God has already dealt with satan through His only Son Jesus Christ. All of this hatred and deceit is satan's way of trying to do what he does best...destroy! Christ will return and you all will see the King of kings and Lord of lords; it may be too late, but he will deal with all those who were unrighteous; who pulled up against Israel; who cursed Israel. Stop believing your own lies and those being fed to you; stop the hate speech; if you are so peace-loving and not radical, address the leaders who are and stop the unneccessary and inhumane killing of ppl by suicide bombings, terrorist attacks and other. Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Light. In Him there is peace. God brings us peace that is not from this world. Shalom.

"Infatada" = uporising, of which there have two from Gaza, a strip of 175 square miles, each lasting 5 years, from 1987 and from 2000. The Palestinian Liberation Organization has two wings, Fatah in West Bank, and Hamas in Gaza. Gaza has no internationally recognized status, and is still nominally under Egyptian military rule. West Bank is recognized as sovereign Palestine by the Islam and African countries, and by Russia and China. West Bank was annexed by Jordan in 1948, but its 2,5 citizens (2m Arabs and 500 000 Jews) had their citizenship and protection withdrawn by Jordan in 1988. Since then West Bank has been de facto under Israeli military rule, with increasing Israel farming settlement. So economics, not politics, has practically incorporated it into Israel, a fact recognized by the US, Canada, Australia and Europe. As to Gaza, I can't understand why Egypt does not solve its problem by a unilateral declaration of its freedom.

For years,America have supported Israel both financially and militarily because they perceived they were the innocent victims of hostile and violent neighbors. The US media has, for years, provided extensive coverage of every incident involving Arab-against-Israeli violence. From shootings, to car bombs to suicide bombers, America have seen it all. Or have they.? Why would rational human beings, given a choice, choose to attack their neighbors rather than live together in peace? More pertinent, why would a rational human being choose to blow himself up rather than live? The Israelis, the US media and our politicians would have us believe that the Arabs are simply not rational. They routinely tell us that Arabs are "religious fanatics" who "hate freedom" or "hate our way of life" to quote George W. Bush. These arguments are fallacious and intellectually bankrupt. The reason for Arab against Israeli violence is simple: The Israelis have been systematically repressing and brutalizing hundreds of thousands of Arabs on a scale unparalleled since World War II I have the proof. Below (at the link) are photographs of the victims of Israeli violence. They depict brutal, violent death, horrific personal injury and devastation of property which is simply unfathomable. ALL of it was perpetrated by Israelis against Arabs. ALL of the victims are civilians. As you view these pictures ask yourself this question: What would YOU or YOUR LOVED ONES do in retaliation for these things? http://www.thewe.cc/contents/more/archive/atrocities.htm extremely graphic, please proceed with caution!

Where the old photos of the First Gulf War were re-resurrected from only the web designer would know. The blatant lies and the propaganda are however not so good. Pretty amateurish. The photos of the aftermath of suicide bombers do tell a story though. All in all a pretty much BS website as far as truth is concerned. (Why would Israel build hospitals just so that the same people they strike can get treated?) Which tells you where this gcodi.mahomed is coming from, for if this was the truth, then it is a great showcase for the inability of Palestinians to learn. Stop shooting rockets at Israel.....

Perhaps some people will understand why we are so reluctant as Africans to fully accept them. I only have this place (South Africa) as a home. If the mineral wealth or any other wealth runs dry I have nowhere to go to. I am surprised by the number of white people who call Israel home, and how they are willing to go and fight for their 'home'. This is also evidenced by a very high number of people with Dual Citizenship.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu on Zionism: The Apartheid government was very powerful, but we said to them: Watch it! If you flout the laws of this universe, you’re going to bite the dust! (applause) Hitler was powerful. Mussolini was powerful. Stalin was powerful. Idi Amin was powerful. Pinochet was powerful. The Apartheid government were powerful. Milosevic was powerful. But, this is God’s world. A lie, injustice, oppression, those will never prevail in the world of this God. That is what we told our people. And we used to say: those ones, they have already lost, they are, they are going to bite the dust one day. We may not be around. An unjust Israeli government, however powerful, will fall in the world of this kind of God.”

The true colors of the " the religion" of peace. Islam spreading lies again by half-truths. Hamas have for the last couple of years bombed Israel continiously without them retaliating. Now that they are defending themselves against people hiding behind woman and children they want to make a lot of noise.

Maybe you should read your Bible, Malcolm. A long list of things need to happen before Armageddon, including the War of Gog and Magog. "My people perish for lack of knowledge" (Hosea) seems to be applicable across the board.

This what Jews have to say about Zionism Dr. Ilan Pappe, the Haifa University historian at the forefront of a campaign calling for sanctions and an academic boycott of Israel, said that in order to divorce Zionism from Judaism we must not adopt their discourse. Rabbi Ahron Cohen, who represented the anti-Zionist Neturei Karta Hasidic sect, said, “Zionists imposed a secular faith state on the Palestinians, this is immoral and the underlying cause of the strife. Zionism and Judaism are incompatible concepts. Many Jews do not approve of Zionism but they cannot say this publicly.” I find the ignorance of the posts startling !

Why do people think that Palestinians are all Moslem? Look here! In December 2009, prominent Palestinian Christian leaders released the Kairos Palestine Document, "A moment of truth." Among the authors of the document are Patriarch Michel Sabah, Archbishop Attalah Hanna, Father Jamal Khader, Rev. Mitri Raheb, Rev. Naim Ateeq and Rifat Kassis who is the coordinator and chief spokesperson of the group. The document declares the Israeli occupation of Palestine a "sin against God" and against humanity. It calls on churches and Christians all over the world to consider it and adopt it and to call for the boycott of Israel. Section 7 calls for “the beginning of a system of economic sanctions and boycott to be applied against Israel.” It states that isolation of Israel will cause pressure on Israel to abolish all of what it labels as "apartheid laws" that discriminate against Palestinians and non-Jews. Now tell me, how can a Jew, Chriatian and Moslem defend Zionism, the latter, the crux of the conflict

fred.fraser.12. frivously states "Israel was created in 1948 from 52% of the land formerly occupied by the Jewish and Palestinian people, and Palestine 43%. Edward Said, Christian Palestinian and former University Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University has this to say:" In 1948, at the moment that Israel declared itself a state, it legally owned a little more than 6 percent of the land of Palestine...After 1940, when the mandatory authority restricted Jewish land ownership to specific zones inside Palestine, there continued to be illegal buying (and selling) within the 65 percent of the total area restricted to Arabs. Thus when the partition plan was announced in 1947 it included land held illegally by Jews, which was incorporated as a fait accompli inside the borders of the Jewish state. And after Israel announced its statehood, an impressive series of laws legally assimilated huge tracts of Arab land (whose proprietors had become refugees, and were pronounced ‘absentee landlords’ in order to expropriate their lands and prevent their return under any circumstances).” Edward Said, “The Question of Palestine"

Just a word of advice if you are relatively new to this forum. One of the rules is to ignore Fred Fraser. He unashamedly copies and pastes the same nonsense repeatedly in almost every forum, and also within the same forum (just scroll up and you will notice how many times he did this). He is an annoyance that takes up unnecessary space.

      Desilusionada - 2012-11-18 19:43

Now living in Holland ,Dr. Hajo Meyer, a German born scientist and Holocaust survivor, is a board member of Another Jewish Voice, part of the European Jewish Alliance for a Just Peace. In his book, “The End of Judaism”, he has criticised Israel for “treating the Palestinian people in the same way the Nazis treated Jews during the Second World War." @ Jeremy Bard.....please please go and play with thousands of slippery marbles on the busiest higway that you can find. And take your tiny teeny little brain cell with you. You read way too many fairy tales. Israel just decided one day sometime last week to go into Gaza just for fun and kill a 13 year old playing soccer? And then also sometime last week on the Thursday they just went in, again and killed off another kid. So when exactly did Hamas shoot at the army jeeps for revenge on Thursday sometime for these killings? And then Israel killed the Hamas leader on Wednesday last week for shooting at the Jeeps. You BLITHERING IDIOT, DO YOU AND ALL OTHERS BELIEVING SO QUICKLY SEE HOW RIDICULOUSLY STUPID YOU SOUND. No-one mentions that last week befor Hamas shot at the Jeep that one of there own rockets came back at them and killed those kids. Find somewhere that tells the truth read it before commenting. Prof. Noam Chomsky, a Jew, visited Gaza recently. His account of the visit included: "Even a single night in jail is enough to give a taste of what it means to be under the total control of some external force. And it hardly takes more than a day in Gaza to begin to appreciate what it must be like to try to survive in the world’s largest open-air prison, where a million and a half people, in the most densely populated area of the world, are constantly subject to random and often savage terror and arbitrary punishment, with no purpose other than to humiliate and degrade, and with the further goal of ensuring that Palestinian hopes for a decent future will be crushed and that the overwhelming global support for a diplomatic settlement that will grant these rights will be nullified." See http://www.israeli-occupation.org/2012-11-07/noam-chomsky-impressions-of-gaza. How can any decent human being allow these atrocities to happen? Tell me so if you are a human being who has humanity at heart! Or tell me whether Prof. Chomsky is lying and why he would he be lying!
