UN Security Council meets on N Korea

2013-02-12 16:36

New York - The UN Security Council on Tuesday started emergency talks on North Korea's nuclear test with world powers calling for swift action against Pyongyang.

The 15-nation council passed a resolution last month threatening "significant action" against North Korea in the event of a new nuclear test or missile launch.

The meeting was held amid near universal condemnation of the blast. Even China, the North's closest ally, summoned the North Korean ambassador in Beijing to protest.

"We certainly hope that the council will be able to send a clear message of strong condemnation," Philip Parham, Britain's deputy UN ambassador, told reporters as he entered the closed meeting at the UN headquarters.

Until the UN Security Council grows balls to tackle Israel, they must leave North Korea alone. Just last week the UN Secretary General declared Israel's settlement activities illegal under international law, and an impediment to any lasting solution to the Middle East conflict.

Linds I get your point but the big issue in this article is nuclear weapons. Israel is not firing or testing nuclear weapons. Nukes affects the whole world, even your beloved Palestine.

At the height of apartheid Israel was collaborating with SA on its nuclear arms development programme. That's why I pick on them. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Why allow some nations to have nuclear weapons while others aren't allowed?

. One issue , just about the whole world is united on; NO NUCLEAR N KOREA!!! Even these Russians, who believe 'foreign poilcy' is just a matter of throwing one weight around, are onboard this one!! And than most surprisingly, even China is getting fed up with this North Korean rubbish leadership. Actually, it is not that much different, than the issue with Iran, except there , Russia and China let the West do its 'dirty' work!!!
