White House calls gun video 'repugnant'

Washington - The White House says a National Rifle Association (NRA) video referencing President Barack Obama's daughters is "repugnant and cowardly".

Obama spokesperson Jay Carney says most Americans agree that a president's children should not be used as "pawns in a political fight".

Carney was referring to an online video from the pro-gun lobby.

The video calls Obama an "elitist hypocrite" for having armed Secret Service agents protect his daughters at school while not committing to installing armed guards in all schools.

The NRA released the video ahead of Obama's announcement on Wednesday of proposals for curbing the nation's gun violence.

The president is calling on Congress to enact universal background checks and ban assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines - all measures the NRA opposes.

Quite rightly. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. What makes his family more valuable than any other in the USA? In SA it's the same. All these unknown ministers travel with bodyguards and blue lights for prestige and self-importance, though nobody on the street would recognise them from Adam!

I disagree. The fact that Obama is trying to curb gun crime shows that he knows that there is an issue that needs sorting. It is the NRA that is blocking his attempts to do so.

The truth has hit a sore spot huh? They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin

Easy to tell others what they should be doing whilst you have all the resources of the state and taxpayers protecting you. Do as I say not as I do. Typical leftist mantra. Sorry his kids get dragged into this but this hypocrisy of the left needs to be highlighted.

I cannot understand why any private individual would need assault rifles and automatic weapons. If Obama curb gun violence, it will be the single biggest achievement of his administration.

He is the president. If his daughters are unprotected they will become targets. Think about it before making silly comments. Once he leaves office they will no longer have armed protection.. but the next presidents children will... its not rocket science.

As I said, "what's good for the goose is good for the gander".....
