Sana'a - Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh said on Sunday that he will leave to the United States for medical treatment and asked his people for forgiveness, in a farewell speech published by state media.

"I will go to the United States for treatment and will then return as head of the [ruling] General People's Congress party," the Saba news agency quoted Saleh as saying, without specifying when he would depart.

"I ask for forgiveness from all my people, men and women, for any shortcomings during my 33-year-long rule," he added.

Sorry Anthony, Saleh has been a good puppet and as such is welcomed in Washington. How about him allowing drone attacks on his own people. Remember US foreign policy: All summed up by US president Roosevelt describing one of the worst Latin American dictators, Somoza of Nicaragua with the words - "Somoza (replace with most alligned US scumbags) may be a son of a bitch, but he's OUR son of a bitch." Saleh is not going anywhere!

@Mthuthuzeli, Agree with you, that Salah, had up to the start of the uprisings in North Africa and than the ME, total support from the USA. But not even this powerful USA, can stop what is happening in the ME. I believe, if they could, they would!!!!! At least, up till now, the USA and Europe, have been smart enough, to have picked the winning teams!!! There has been intense debate in the USA, to let Saleh into the country. To my mind, any leader who instructs or allows his oposition to be mowed down, mainly by army snipers, should be put on a plane to The Haque!!! ( Must agree, that Roosevelt's comment, was pretty crazy!!!!! )
