The twins were only two years old when their sister Maddie disappeared. But when they blow out the candles on their 13th birthday cake, their wish will be that she comes home.

Kate McCann, Maddie’s mother, says although the twins, Sean and Amelie, grew up without their sister, they miss her and would like to have her back in their lives.

Sean and Amelie were born in February 2005. Gerry and Kate will remember Maddie with prayers during the joint birthday party for the twins.

The pair will be surrounded by loved ones for the milestone.

“Kate and Gerry want to give the twins a memorable occasion. They’re teenagers now and that’s a big deal.

“But the party will be marred with a tinge of sadness because Madeleine is not here to join in the fun,” a guest told dailymail.co.uk.

Maddie went missing in May 2007 while on holiday with her parents in Praia da Luz, Portugal.

The then three-year-old disappeared from her room while Kate and Gerry were having dinner at a nearby restaurant with friends. The couple had left the three children sleeping in their holiday bungalow.

Many theories have since surfaced about what might have happened to little Maddie, but over a decade later, there are still no answers.

Kate, a medical doctor, stopped practising to become an ambassador for charity organization Missing People, while Gerry is a well-known cardiologist.

The couple will both be celebrating their 50th birthday this year and say they are trying to live a normal life for the sake of the twins.

“They have their own friends and they keep busy and they’re really sporty, but their only wish is for their big sister to come home.

“We miss our complete family of five."
